TOPEKA, Kan. (February 2, 2012) – Brianne Corn, of San Marcos, Texas, and Jonathon Lugod, of Oceanside, Calif., have been selected by the Sports Car Club of America Solo Events Board for two of the top honors in the program based on their efforts at the 2011 Tire Rack SCCA Solo National Championships.

Corn earned the 2011 Driver of the Year title after becoming just the third woman to win an open-class National Championship in SCCA Solo competition, earning the B Modified title with a 1.054-second win over two-time defending champion Clemens Burger. After earning the B Modified Ladies championship in 2008, Corn moved strictly to open-class competition and finished as the runner-up in 2010 driving the Le Grand Dragon that she would pilot in 2011.

Changes made to the Tire Rack SCCA National Solo Series Policies and Procedures

 

Competitors in the Tire Rack SCCA National Solo Series can expect several changes to the event administration policies and procedures for the 2012 season. The changes, all resulting from a January multi-day meeting with key staff members at SCCA Headquarters, keep the focus on the Howard Duncan mantra, "Make it Easy, Make it Fun."

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (Jan. 26, 2012) - Five-time SCCA national champion Don Knowles was named the recipient of the 2011 Bob Akin Award by the Road Racing Drivers Club at a dinner prior to the running of the Rolex 24 At Daytona, the season opener of the 2012 GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series.

The RRDC is celebrating its 60th anniversary this year.

 TOPEKA, Kan. (January 25, 2012) – The Sports Car Club of America and the Lincoln Airport Authority have recently agreed to a lease extension that will keep the Tire Rack® SCCA® Solo® National Championships at the Lincoln (Neb.) Airport through 2017.

The event, which annually attracts more than 1200 competitors to crown National Championships in each of the Solo classes, has been held on the concrete airport runway surface since 2009. The recently-signed lease has an additional five-year option included, which could keep the event in Lincoln through 2022.
