With the exception of one post, the last 20 on this page have NOTHING to do with classing the M in SS. You guys need to find your own thread Wink

I thought they were about making a class where the M Coupe could be competitive...because it's not likely to be very competitive in SS.

This is (errr, was) a great topic of discussion (subscribed)

I like this idea as well. Move the current cream of SS (Both ZO6's, Elise, GT3) up a new class called XS or Xtreme Stock or Xtra Stock, well maybe not the last one. Leave the everything else in SS as it sits.  I think that class with the cars that everyone else mentoined would be packed full at Nats.  I know I would consider several of those options

I would also more seriously consider joining the stock class ranks if lower-tier SS cars had their own place to play.... great idea!

Well with the season half over and competing every weekend against an M-coupe with a good setup and a couple of good drivers, I'd have to say you can put a fork in this one.  The M-coupe is another SS also ran, IMHO.  Add it to the Non-Z06 C5, RX7 TT, Cayman S, Boxster S and the 911 (excluding the GT3) as wanabees with no where to win....

Can't say I'm surprised.  Anyone who was in SS this past weekend knows now what it takes to run at the top of the class.  Braun, Salerno, Connors and Wynveen all driving at the top of their game?  Fun to watch.

That said, even if we give those cars a place to play, is anyone going to buy them?  What would you rather own, a $35k C5 Z06 (or, jeez, a $65k GT3 or a $40k lotus) in SS or a $55k Cayman S in a restructured A Stock?  The third-gen RX-7 should stay buried.  So you end up with another corvette class...?  I'm not saying anything, I'm just saying...

    Re: M Roadster in SS

You guys realize that on a 50-sec course, the differentiation between SS and AS is only about half a second right?  This obviously varies by course, but half a second is a good average.  Do we really think there is a need for an entire stock class that splits that difference in half?  There was almost a 4-sec spread in SS from 1st trophy position to last at Nats.  Maybe these cars cant win in SS, but a top-10 trophy position is certainly not out of the question if driven well, which makes it plenty competitive for a 2nd tier car in my opinion.  Not all cars in a class are going to compete, its what happens when you have 9 total classes and hundreds upon hundreds of cars to place them into.

    Drew,

While I appreciate the point you are trying to make.  I have to respectfully disagree.  There are many classes out there, that post similar or nearly identical times.  The point is; Is there an interest in such a class and can we make it work.  I say yes and yes.  What if this new class ends up being slower than BS.  But still makes 40 plus entries at nationals.  Does it matter if it's called SS?

Jeremy - as you and I have discussed, I dont necessarily agree or disagree with the above, just stirring the pot a little ;)  My question would then be, who gets the boot?  It is highly unlikely that another stock class will be allowed, so for the sake of argument, lets say it won't.  As most of you can see from the latest FastTrack, the SAC has already been discussing this some, I would suggest you write in your input.  Letters that say "YOU GUYS ARE DUMB!" probably wont help though ;)  Also might want to keep in mind the very quickly expanding exclusion list and whether or not those cars should have a place to play in Stock.

    Wow, that's scary!

Great way to bring in new blood ;)

    Just keep that in mind.
