    New Hoosier Size ---265/xx/18

I spoke with Jeff @ hoosier today regarding a potentail new tire size.  And I wanted to see if anyone here might be interested in such a size.

We had discussed essentially a tweener tire between the 245/35/18 and the 285/30/18.  Basically would be the same height as the 245/35 but an inch or so wider.

I feel with all the current car as well as new ones that are coming with narrowish 18" wheels and don't want to cram a 285 or 295 might benefit.

I'm interested in the 265/35 18 size.  It would mean I wouldn't have to mess with spacers anymore.  The 285's have been tearing the front of my car up.  Indifferent

Wow, that's exactly what the GT3 needed in super stock for a front tire.

I would like try this size on the CS Solstice ZOK. Lower the profile, the better the feel?
I am not happy with the feel on the 295's that I am using now.

It would make a great front tire for the Noble, too.

Took several adjustments to get them there, but I'm extremely happy with the 295s.  I won't be changing.

My bet is 265/35 (assuming it happens) and it likely won't match a 245/35 diameter, it will need to be club racer friendly too and they don't get the sizing leeway we do in Solo

I don't know about that. Case in point: 255/40-13 and 275/35-15 are not available in the road racing compounds. They'll probably do exactly what they did for the  225/45-15 - 275/35-15, and add an inch to center of the mould of the 245/35-18 to make the 265/32.5-18.

That's exactly what Jeff said they could do.  So it would be the same 24.9" diameter as the 245/35/18.

I sure wish they would do the same thing with the 285/30-18 and make a 305. The 285 is to narrow and the 315 is to tall for the GT3. I know Hoosier used to make a 305-18. Would be nice to have it back some way.

That's an awesome tire size, especially if the recent rule proposal for Street Modified goes through - 275 or narrower tires widths earn a 200lb weight limit reduction.

    Re: New Hoosier Size ---265/xx/18

yeah, I suppose a 265/30-18 is possible if they feel there's enough demand

I thought it odd that the 305/30-18 dropped out of the A6/R6 lineup, but it's still available as as the speed-rated Wet Radial

FastMike, if you're 295s aren't excessively worn I may be interested in taking them off your hands

I think the tire would work on a ton of cars.  Let me think of a few stock class cars that could benefit.

     RX-8

    Boxster

    New STI

New EVO and HS Lancer GTS

    New Cobalt SS

    GT3

    MS3

    Audi TT

    Crossfire

    Etc.

    Re: New Hoosier Size ---265/xx/18

I had a chat the other day with one of the tire guys at Hoosier (wasn't Jeff Speer). The latest I heard was that the tire should be available late this fall (November) or very early in the spring (March). I was told it would be a 255 size, and not a 265 as we originally heard, as they need to meet some road racing restriction on tire sizing to be able to make the mold financially feasible.

    Re: New Hoosier Size ---265/xx/18

I talked to Jeff again at nats and while that is mostly true.  The tire will be labeled a 255/35/18 to meet the club racing rules.  The actual tire will be a 245/35/18 with an inch spacer added to the mold.  So 270/32/18, ish.
