1980 TR8 Good autocross car on the cheap?

There is a 1980 TR8 drop top in the family that is a beater than can be picked up on the cheap. I'm currently driving a 01 Bullitt that falls into ESP but is very underprepared as it has no suspension work. Would the TR8 be a good car for autocross? I see that it falls into E-Stock but preparation beyond that is in BSP (where it probably can't be competitive I guess). I think that Street Touring is off limits to all Triumphs. Am I correct in that it goes to ES, BSP, and FP? I know there aren't many out there just didn't know if it was a worthwhile venture as a stictly autocross car. Kinda like a Miata, slightly heavier with a little more torque and a nice V8 sound.

It will get killed in stock for sure.

It will probably get killed in BSP too. It might do ok in prepared, but you could buy a fully prepped MR2 for ES for a LOT cheaper than making the TR8 competitive in any class.

    Just food for thought.

Owning a B/SP TR8 (now retired) I can tell you that it is HOPELESSLY uncompetitive in E/S and B/SP. Fun car - absolutely, Easy to work on, cheap and available parts, and sounds SO sweet with headers and a no muffler system running just through resonators. But with no more than 160-180 legal horsepower in B/SP hauling around 2700 pounds there is no chance. F/P might be a different story, but it would take a well developed 4.0 liter Rover engine (actually legal in F/P), a Ford rear end, and some serious tweaking. With the weight rules in F/P the car would have to be 2500 pounds. Could be a strong local/divisional car, but not sure about National. Look at the list in F/P and you'll see what I mean.
