    Peru Nat tour

This will be my first time at this site. I'm staying at a hotel on base. Is there food there? Can I order in pizza? Beer? I hope to get there friday morning put on the race tires and leave them on till I head for home sunday.

Also whats the low down on the test n tune? How much does it cost, and can i just pay when i get there? I'm guessing that it is just a short course set up to feel out the surface, and then after the test n tune they set up the event course.

    Thanks

    Lon

    Re: Peru Nat tour

There is a little restaurant right outside of the base, across the street from the entrance we use. We usually eat breakfast there early Friday morning. Good local place. Most of civilisation is in Kokomo about a 15 mile drive South. Check out The Hip Hugger if you are a Baby Dolls type.

You'll have to drive from where the event is to the hotel. It is not across the parking lot or anything, its a few miles drive. I'm sure the pizza places in Peru (i know there was a Papa Johns at one time) will deliver to the Grissom Inn. Like Alan said, there is a mom/pop restaurant across from the site entrance off of the main highway. There is also a Subway inside the gas station just south of the site.

Its $3/run or 4 for $10 if I remember correctly. No pre-registration, just show up to buy your tickets and get your work assignment. Ticket sales start at 10am and end at 2pm. The actually testing time starts at 11am and ends at 3pm.

It is usually a 25-35 second course. Most of the time, the Tour course is already set-up and they tear down the area used for the test course.

Thanks for the info guys. Driving 2 miles or so at 35mph to the hotel is not going to burn up the hoosier A6's so I'm still gonna rock the race tires all weekend long.

Having been there a bunch, I can say you would have been better served changing your tires and heading for Kokomo.

Grissom area is pretty lonesome looking to me. And Motel 6 is CHEAP.

Well I ended up staying on base and it worked out alright. I ended up heading to Kokomo to have dinner with 3 generations of Millers on sat night but that was fine. Grissom Inn is very old feeling but clean and cheap. It had a walk in shower which I found very nice. Over all I'd give it 2.5 Das's out of a possiable 5.

yes, the Grissom may not be the fanciest place... but it was close until you wanted to go out that night... then it's a haul no matter where you go...

Walk in shower was small but got the job done. We had no complaints.

BTW.. Lon... good meeting ya over the weekend.

He took so many I'm sure it takes a bit to process them, but you'll be able to get to them from the IndySCCA site when they are ready.

It was nice meeting you too. I really had a good time even though I didn't run all that well. It was good to meet new people and see some old freinds. That was my first national event since like 1998.

Thats good to know. I was wondering the same thing as Alex.

I was shocked at the speed of the Honda Civic spec racer sts class. Pretty amazing how fast you guys are going on street tires.

Tell me about it, I'm just trying to keep up with these guys!

First heat photos are up from Saturday. Thanks again to Wilmouth, who didn't drive so that he could take such great pics for everyone.

Heat 2 photos are now up on the Indy Region site...

I'd like to congratulate Indy Region on a well run event, everything went well, and we had something different with the grid layout that seemed to work well.

Congrats to Andy, Craig, and Brian.  Cool

I think there may be more to come of heat 2 (hoping anyway). Check out picture #95 - looks like a mudbog.

Great shots, from John Wilmoth. I have to buy some.
