    Classing question

Friend of mine wants to go to Nats this year, but we aren't sure of his actual classing, or if he is even legal.   It is a Cobra replica kit (which I believe was put into BP, and then to XP).  Difference is he doesn't have the (not quite sure here) the standard pushrod motor (5.0?) but has the updated 4.9 or whatever the new ones are.   Is he still legal for XP, or where exactly can I find his classing.   Don't want to have him make a trip to Nats just to get disqualified!!!

    TIA

    Re: Classing question

According to Appendix A, only Factory Five replicas with push rod engines are legal in XP. He could be legal for EM, though.  He will need a scattershield, drive shaft hoop, electrical cutoff switch, and , I think, and approved roll bar.

    Lynn:
scattershield, drive shaft hoop, electrical cutoff switch
What tires is he running on?  Those items are not required in D/E Mod as long as the car is running on DOT tires, which would include R-compounds.  See Section 18, Safety Rules, Note to A.3.

I'm pretty sure that some sort of approved roll bar is needed, though you might be able to get a little relief on its height if the car is street-driven, has a production top, and runs on DOT tires.  See Section 3.3.2.  An official e-mail to the seb is probably in order here.

    Re: Classing question

    Tracy,

The car isn't legal for XP.  However, as Lynn noted, he could run E Mod.

Note:  Cobra replicas are currently legal for XP only through the grandfathered BP rules, and only the Factory Five Cobras are listed.

    Re: Classing question

Ok, thanks all.   I will pass that along, and Steve, you saw it this weekend...the black Cobra.   I know he runs on DOT's, and he has a rollbar.  EM it is!!
