Where to get alignment and what specs to ask for?

I've neglected getting the STi an alignment for way too long and it's time to find a place to give me a proper one.  Does anyone know of a good place in our area or around jackson?  Also, I'm unsure of what specs I should ask them to give me wherever I end up going.  I'm thinking as much negative camber in the front as I can get, but I'm unsure of what to ask for in the rear and also what to do in terms of toe. I'm hoping Brian will chime in here since he's obviously had lots of experience with subaru suspension.  Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Holy camber, batman! Ha mine and Brian's setups are obviously pretty different. I think the most I can get on my stock setup in -1.0 deg. If only I weren't a broke college student and could afford some camber plates. Brian, I'd be glad to give you some cash and swap boost controllers with you(if you still need to, that is) if you want to help set up my alignment when I get back to state.

Hah, the only reason Brian's camber was that high was because he had broken a strut.

Any place that uses Hunter Engineering equipment.  It is the best out.  I know "obie's" in Clinton has one. I am not sure how much toe to run I think someone else can help you with that.  By the way its about $60 for an alignment.

Good to know about the hunter engineering equipment. Everyone in baton rouge wants 80 bucks and up for an alignment and won't give me the specs I want.

Re: Where to get alignment and what specs to ask for?

there's not a whole lot of adjustment on the stock suspension from what I remember. You MIGHT be able to get -1 degree in the front. I believe the rear is technically non-adjustable. Just go for zero toe all around for tire life. If you wanted to live on the edge try a small amount of toe out in the rear. (maybe 1/16" total)

Re: Where to get alignment and what specs to ask for?

Thanks for the info. Yeah from what I gathered on nasioc, the most I can get is -1 deg. I guess a little toe out in the rear would aid in rotation correct? How much would that really affect my tire wear?

I've used Upton Tire next to Target on I-55.  They aligned to my specs on my Miata and let me sit in the car during so the weight distribution was correct.  That was a couple of years ago, though.

Re: Where to get alignment and what specs to ask for?

I'll look into them as I was hoping to sit in the car while it's being aligned. I also found a place online called performance motorsports located in pearl, ms that looks promising. Anyone have experience with them? Another off topic question that someone may be able to help me with is some brake pad help. I'm ordering some in a couple of days and it's down to carbotech bobcats and hawk hps'. If anyone could give some firsthand experiences with either, that'd be awesome. Thanks for the info so far.

I've got experience with Hawk HP+ pads. They're great for autocrossing, but make a ridiculous amount of noise and dust for just driving around town. That is, unless you stop hard at every stop light/sign...

Re: Where to get alignment and what specs to ask for?

Cool. HP+ were on my list until I found out that they eat rotors pretty quickly. I think I've finally decided on the HPS', but if anyone else has input on something else they tried and liked please let me know. It'll be a couple of days before I place my order.

Re: Where to get alignment and what specs to ask for?

Be sure to break them in properly... I have Hawk Hp + on my s2000 and so does trey and we both have had excellent results with them.  Matt is correct on the noise and dust levels it is ludicrous.  I would have to clean my wheels everyday to keep them sparkling sadly im to lazy...lol..

Re: Where to get alignment and what specs to ask for?

I'd go with the HPS. I had the HP+ and aside from the noise (lots) and dust (lots) they were great, with a couple of notes worthy of mention.

They've got a lot of initial bite, which some people don't like, but it worked for me. My car has a lot of pedal travel and the brakes are easy to modulate, so it was a good fit for it (the car) and me (the driver).

They suck when they're cold. When ambient temps are below ~50 degrees, you have to drag the brakes heavily on your way to the start line for your first run. I do it even in 70 degree weather. Hell, in the winter I used to drag the brakes for the 40 yards from my driveway to the first stop sign in the mornings so I'd actually have the ability to stop. Okay, I'm exaggerating a little but they still suck when they're cold.

Bottom line is I think they're great autocross pads, they just require some attentiveness. They suck on the street compared to a street pad; HPS (or similar... even stock) is probably the way to go, and will work fine for autocrossing duty.

Re: Where to get alignment and what specs to ask for?

Surely we can get you aligned before the event this weekend!  I'd be happy to help you set your toe.  If you can find a camber gauge we can do that too.

I would think 0 toe front, 0 toe out rear  and  max camber up front (more than 1deg possible with some widening of strut housing bolt holes?) probably leave rear, what's the stock camber rear?

Performance Motorsport is owned by sometimes MSSCCA member Marshall Morgan. I know they have scales but not sure on alignment equipment, but I'll bet he can give you a good clue where to go.

Marshall's ISP company - netdoor.com - is the " no charge" provider for your MSSCCA website. You might want to say "thanks" when you see him.

Wow, that's really awesome of you to offer Rob! I'm actually home in baton rouge for the next couple of weeks, so I unfortunately won't be making it to columbus for this event. I will, however, be back at the beginning of august and will definitely take you up on the offer if I haven't had any luck by then. I called a supposedly reputable shop in baton rouge today and asked if they'd dial things in to my specifications and was told "no, we only do it the right way."  Needless to say, it's getting frustrating trying to find a place around here. Thanks again for the offer and I'll definitely shoot you an email when I get to town if I have no luck. Really looking forward to grenada the weekend before classes start back! Oh, and Skip; I will definitely give my appreciation for the site if I end up going by performance motorsports. Thanks for the info.

Since we're reviving the thread, i finally broke down and bought a camber gauge, so you're welcome here in columbus.
