It's just not gonna happen this year!

    Hey all,

I came to the harsh realization last night that Nationals is just not in the cards for me this year, and had to withdraw my entry from EP.

Yes, the new car is not quite complete, but it is about 95%, and I am very excited to debut something new and creative to the category.  I have no doubt I could get the car ready, however, when I sat down and figured out what kind of time and money that last 5% was going to cost me, complicated by travel costs, it was hard to justify, just to take an un-tested, un-developed car to Nationals.  This new car is by no means a street car with slicks, so there are many custom parts which I feel much more comfortable testing closer to home.  Spending the next few months getting everything just right, and developing the car all next season, is a lot more appealing than rushing it together in the next week and a half to me.

As a strong support of the category, I felt it was only right that you all know why I didn’t make the trip to Topeka for the first time in 11 years.  But watch out next year!

Have fun and good luck to all!

    -Chris

Sorry to hear that Chris.  Are you going at all?  Thought about a co-drive with someone?  How about a rent-a-car?  Surely you could rent a Civic Wink

Can't wait to see the new car.  At least this one drives the correct wheels.  Now if you could just remember where the engine is supposed to go Stick out tongue

You shouldn't let a silly thing like not having a completed car keep you from coming out.  My potential co-driver / tire warmer bailed on me this year, so I have an open seat if you're interested.  After seeing that we are once again running 2nd heat, I really would like to have someone to warm tires for me.

I missed Nationals in 2006 (started in 2000) and have been kicking myself ever since, I recommend trying to go!

I skipped 2007, I won't make that mistake again.  There is very little that is worse than sitting at work trying to follow what is happening and missing all the fun.

I missed 2006 too.  I had to console myself with the fact that I was at the Nurburgring instead.  The sacrifices we make.Crying

Re: It's just not gonna happen this year!

Thanks guys!  I appreciate all the encouragement (I think that's what it was), and co-drive offers I have received, but I'm actually looking forward to some time off.  I've been going non-stop at this autocross thing, at a high level, for 14 years.  It is a nice feeling to take a step back and take a breath.  Going as hard as I have on this new car for the past five months, has kind of burnt me out.

Don't worry though.  I'll be back next year to complicate EP a little and hopefully generate some new interest in the class (that is my goal).  I'm already back in the garage and planning for the stuff I just didn't have time to do this year.

    I can't wait!

Good karma for all of you who responded though!

    laaaame.

Maybe if you had some schmuckball neighbor to help you put it together things would be different.

Put "EP" on the side of the 2002, drive that!  It'll, well, almost be heavy enough.

Bah.  Have fun with the time off, though!

Unless that schmuckball neighbor had a big bag of cash and no use for it, it probably wouldn't have helped.

    Thanks!
