Re: 1997 ACR Neon for Sale
So...you're car IS or IS NOT stock?
Simple question. If is IS stock, then we know your car extremely well because we've owned them, raced them, have more factory documentatoin than you realize, looked for every possible advantage within the rules, broke them, taken them apart, fixed them and put them back together. Unless your stock car is somehow difference that all the other stock cars built.???
If it IS NOT stock, then you're right...we don't know *your* car, but then again you didn't say anything about it being modified.
So....which is it? Stock, or modified?

Pat,
He posted initially that it was a stock un-modified car by using the terms "factory". You can't be using big words like "stock" with this guy. The reason why we're all giving this guy a hard time is because we all indeed know all about these Neon ACR's having been around roughly 99.9% of the available production cars built for so many years.
His car being able to spin the tires in 3rd is probably on a very slippery surface on all-season tires. I know that I spun the tires in 5th gear on Steve's Neon but that was towing a trailer and in about 6" of standing water going up a steep hill. Hydroplaning counts too doesn't it?
I think this guy likes his car much more than anyone on this list anyway. We all know what a quality car these Neons are don't we How many of these we've seen with lifting paint, door glass breaking at a whim, cam sensors going awry, belts flying, motor mounts breaking, motors blowing up, hubs, windshields cracking under stress, etc.
I know one reason why his car can spin the tires in 3rd, if you loaded up all that weight into a Neon with those big speakers and amps to the rear, it'll weigh the rear down enough to lighten the front end and thus third gear tire spin.
It's got enough miles on it that any day now it should be needing a new motor, clutch and tranny. Not to mention the hubs are shot from those hard launches at the track and driven so hard by this "trained" driver.
Too bad he's in the wrong place at the wrong time. He'd be better off donating the thing and taking the tax write-off. Oooops! I forgot, he can't in Canada

Re: 1997 ACR Neon for Sale
Oh my... This post was brought to my attention by someone who posted a link to it in the 'humor' section of another forum. And I simply gotta agree - it's damn funny. Let me give you some background. I am from Edmonton which is only a few minutes from Sherwood Park. As a matter of fact, my inlaws still live there. They're good people and they always tell the truth. I also know absolutely NOTHING about Neon ACRs. I have never driven a Neon - period. So if you wanna talk smack about me not knowing dick about your car, go ahead - you'd be 100% correct. I owned an 87 RX-7 (let's be honest here - it was NOT a turbo, factory or otherwise) for 15 years and in that time, I learned a thing or two about 'spirited' driving. I have driven it quite fast, but never raced it (there's a difference, you know) let alone taken any non-sissy driving classes. I have also been on Groat (not Grote) road too. It can be a very fun time if you know what you're doing. But what you're doing here Ken (and I'm ashamed to admit - that's my name too) is lying to and offending the very people you want to sell your car to. You have heard the saying 'bite the hand that feeds you', haven't you? That's great that you've got a fast car and you looked after it for all these years and you want a fair return for it - I get that. But I noticed you quickly and silently edited your first post to remove some of your bogus claims and flat out lies about your car. You're really making yourself look bad. Your chants of 'yeah, whatever - you guys don't know my car' are really getting old. You don't know their cars either so you're even. What you really need to do is stop typing in this forum and leave these good people alone. No one here will buy your car. Honestly, it won't happen, this bridge is burnt to the ground and the bulldozers are coming in to clean it up. Oh yeah, I also happen to have a good friend who just so happens to be a driving instructor for the City of Edmonton Police Department. This is true - I've been honest with you so far, haven't I? He tells me that 7500 rpm shifts are NOT part of his curriculum. On the contrary, he focuses on DEFENSIVE driving and trying to stay alive in everything he teaches. If that means sissy-shifting, then so be it. You also gave us a link for a guy who 'knows what he's got'. But for every guy who wants $5000 for his 10 year old Neon, there's 25 people who want $500 obo for their paint peeling, head gasket blowing 10 year old Neon econobox.
So, on behalf of all the people in the greater Edmonton area and Canadians everywhere that you are embarrasing with every word you type, please stop. List your car on Kijiji, or the Auto Trader, or Craigslist, or wherever you want, really. Perhaps you will be able to find a sucker who will believe your '13 second 1/4 mile' and 'factory turbo' claims. It should be painfully obvious by now that the people on this forum don't want it. Really, don't you hear them? You need to go away. Tuck your tail and leave. I apologise to all of you who were getting such a good laugh at this guys expense. It was a fun ride but it should stop. Although I have no doubt that he will need to have the final word so stay tuned. Probably flame me about the RX-7 thing.....

Re: 1997 ACR Neon for Sale
Wow! This thread is still alive? Un-f'ing-real....
Hey Ken, did you know ACR's also came in 4 dr. sedan models? You know, kinda like your grandpa's car. I know, it's silly to think they would put all the good stuff from an ACR into a common sedan, but hey, they did. Not only that, the first 182 built were special models, and ONLY SCCA members could buy them...Yep, that's right! That American Club Racing package was for SCCA folks only during the first run...That was early 1994 by the way. And I was probably one of the first grandpa's to be fooled and bought that new car with zero options...well, except for the Comp Pkg. All it had other than that was a rear window defogger...No radio, no AC, but heck, it WAS and ACR... Then I moved to Texas and needed a car with AC. Low and behold, the coupe came out in Sept. of 94 and a dealer down the road had one, AC and all. How could it still be a real ACR if it had AC? Well, I bought it anyway, squirreled away the ACR sedan, autocrossed it a few times, but seldom drove it on the street. That new ACR coupe with AC was a fine car for street driving in the hot Texas sun... But back to the sedan...I loved that car, as plain as it was, no frills, just a great handling car with a SOHC motor that got excellent gas mileage, and always sounded like it needed another gear when driving down the highway in 5th. Great mileage too, 37 highway sometimes, atmospheric conditions/wind, terrain dependant. In fact, I like it so much that after three years, I sold my ACR coupe with AC, and made the sedan a daily driver, even without AC or radio. Drove across the good ol' USA for many, many miles. Never a problem with that car, and when the SCCA Street Touring classes came along, it looked like the ACR was going to be nixed from competing with the other fine front drivers allowed in the class, but a letter writing campaign to the powers that be changed that. In fact, an ACR coupe with AC actually won the first SCCA Nationals featuring Street Touring Sport. I decided my car would be great for that class, and began a build, following the rules, thinking all along that the ACR sans AC was the winning ticket...not so though, best I could muster was an eighth place back in 02. Burst my bubble for sure... But hey, it was a fun car and I continued to drive it, even won a National Tour in Houston with it...then the Honda Civics became the hot ticket...bummer... Bottom line though, I kept that car for 11 years, put 94K miles on it, kept it in the garage when not driving it, protected the paint from the dreaded clear-coat peel, kept it waxed up and only drove it to an occasional autox for the last few years of ownership. Ya see, I had seen the light, as most everyone had by then, and Honda Civics were the hot ticket in that Street Touring Sport class. Seldom see Neons in the class anymore....just not up to it with the Civics....Yeah, I hate to admit it too, since I was an old Mopar die-hard fan, especially back in the 60's and 70's... Gawd, I owned them all, Road Runners, Cudas, Challengers, and one of my favorites, Dart Swinger 340's, one of which I purchased new. Oh yeah, I forgot to mention the AAR Cuda with the 340 6pk, and pistol grip 4 speed shifter...Can't believe I bought that thing for 38 HUNDRED dollars, and sold it 8 months later for 4 THOUSAND. Yeah, it really makes me sad when I see those things going at the major auctions for as much as half MILLION! Ken, do ya think the ACR would ever be worth that much, huh? Gawd, I hope so, 'cause I just bought another one after selling my one of 182 original ACR sedan, without AC... I bought a 97 ACR coupe WITH AC last year, and have gotten the bug again...36 mpg on a recent 600 mile trip...Not sure I would sell this one unless I could get a major asking price, kinda close to what you suggest you are looking for. Of course, mine has a newly rebuilt DOHC engine, tranny, and clutch assembly, new bushings in the entire suspension, new brakes and exhaust system, including cat converter and short tube header, new 16x7 Rota Slipstreams, and other stuff. Yep, this thing was torn down by me, and gone through nearly every inch of drive-train and suspension, including new Koni adjustables. Oh, and it's red, the most desirable ACR with AC color...Yeah, still factory paint, no peel. Car was always stored in a garage before I got it, and of course I keep it in the garage when not driving it. However, if I really wanted to sell it, I think it would be worth close to your asking price, less a grand maybe...But, I ain't willin' to sell it yet, 'cause they are getting a bit difficult to find in decent shape. Hell, if Chrysler would build this car all over again, they could sell a ton of'em...if they made certain improvements...Anyway, good luck selling your special ACR, but my advice is tell the truth about the car...potential buyers just don't like half truths and inuendo.
If this rambling doesn't kill this thread, nothing will....but it's all rambling with truth...

Oh yeah Ken, I forgot to mention...All three of my ACRs would chirp the tires in third....especially with that skinnyazzed tire they came with...not so much with decent tires though...
Yeah, it's true...

No problem. We are here to help.
Maybe I missed it, but did you explain the fog lights? I thought ACR's had no fog lights.

Come on, 175/65/14 Goodyear Eagle NCTs had mad grip! (It was the ACR guys who coined the phrase "NCT=No Cornering Traction")
