    Re: Peru NT

Scotty is just fine.  We did give him a pretty hard time.  One crazy weekend for sure.  Best case scenario on Saturday, worst case on Sunday.  Tough way to go, but Wes surely deserved that win.  We were both very happy for him.

Scott will be fine.  I stole all of his shoe laces before we got back to Ky.  Stick out tongue

I assume from the comments above that you guys are just giving Scott a hard time and he is ok.

How were the courses?  It looks like based on some of the results, there were big differences between the two days.

Keep in mind that run group 2 had much worse conditions on Saturday than all the other run groups - rain started at the end of run group 1 and formed puddles on course for run group 2 (that conveniently dried up over the break for the next group). This included these classes: ASL, BS, ESL, FSL, GSL, HS, STUL, ESP, FSPL, BML, FPL, GPL, SMCrying, BM, DM, EML, FM

BIG CONGRATS TO WES!!!  YesBeerAutomobileRight HugLightning

Too bad for Scott after a great 1st day.  Wes must have really picked up some pointers after the last Milw Rgn and Chi-Rgn events. Wink

Looking forward to seeing another epic battle at the upcoming Milw NT!

    Re: Peru NT

the sat course was open fast course with a 4 cone slalom with 67 ft spacing,,, the sunday course had the same start, finish and turn around at the top but their were 3 slaloms the first one being set up with 3 cones with 40 ft between the first and last one  you went around all three of these then you have a 55 ft space to dive through and then another set of the 3,   so it's 40 ft straight turn into 55 ft hole then another 40 ft to gather it up and then back into the next 55 ft hole,  there were 5 sets of 3,, it was very very fast much more so than it looked while walking it,,  then the second slalom was a 5 cone with 60 ft spacing , then a little offset into a 4 cone 67 ft spacing ,, so the sunday favored the mini for sure especialy the 02 and 04 that were their with their midland tranny and the 61 mph second gear

Forty feet in between slalom cones is not Solo legal. How sure are you on that spacing?

Can you specify what this rule is you mention?

I think maybe there was a misunderstanding about the slalom setup. It was a series of lane changes. 40 feet of cones (3 cone line), then 55 foot opening, then 40 feet of cones (3 cone line), then 55 foot opening, etc. Like this  ...    ...   ...   ...   ...

What course doesn't favor a mini? (I am actually being serious - what conditions favor one type of car vs another) I was thinking high speed course would favor the more powerful cars rather than the more nimble.

    Re: Peru NT

you went around all three cones not between them  so you have 1cone then 20 ft then another cone then another 20 ft then another cone,,all three of these cones have pointer on the same side,,,  so after you go by the three cones you dive into the 55 ft gap then you go by another three cones then back the other way into another 55 ft gap,, ,,   after every 55 ft gap you got 40 ft that the three cones make up to get the car all gathered up and headed in the right direction for the next 55 ft gap,, makes for a very fast slalom type of maneuver.  i asked Savini what he thought of it and he said " i knew it was going to be fast but not that fast"

IMHO I think any course with long sweepers, or smooth transsitions favor the Mazda. Any course with fast transsistions like Slaloms favor the minis. I think the Mazdas have to much body roll compared to a Mini while trans left to right.

Nice meeting you this past weekend!!

    Thanks guys!!

I still can't believe it!!  and I still feel like I stole this one from Scott. Everything went right for Scott and Saturday, he was lucky and good!!. I was hoping to get to 3rd maybe 2nd on Sunday.  Then the only scenerio that could happen for me to win happened.  (1st run cone, 2nd conservative run, 3rd run rain) Scott, David and the DATS Racing bunch were the first to congratulate me, they are a first class bunch of guys!!  Looking forward to the Milwaukee Tour.

Des, did I read it right?  2000 Ford Escort in STX ???

Unfortunatey the "reliable" Saturn for once wasn't. It didn't even survive the test'n'tune. You could still shalk it up as driver error as I choose to run it on Friday with the oil level low. I most missed the chance to even watch the Tour. The results look like it was quite the exciting class.

The tours have not been kind to Saturns this year

I gave the wagon some new tie rod ends and a more aggressive alignment, and it did pretty well today at a local event. My wife, Christina trophied (3 out of 11 in HS) and placed 15 out of 91 on the index. I will have to remember to bring a backup Saturn to my next Tour. :)

Wow!! 11 in H stock at a local event.  We're lucky to get 3.  Sorry we missed you at Peru.

Every win is a bunch of circumstances that come together in just the right order. You earned it.

The Escort is my old STS ZX2, now owned by Erik Bacon, who's far better equipped to prep and drive it well than I. He and his co-driver are running in STS, me in STX.

     See you next week, Wes.

Quite the opposite. The best course for a powerful car is straight, tight corner, straight, tight corner, repeat. The best course for a less powerful car (but lighter and nimbler) is a wide-open one where they don't have to slow down much.

    Matt,

It was a 95 foot slalom but each cone had a 55' wall before it. So you only had a 40' "hole" to fit through. But if you were attacking the back it was not an issue. It was pretty darn fast and certainly legal per the book.
