Yes... MY SS has 18x7s as well...have yet to find a wheel in that size in our bolt pattern ( 5x110 )
18x7.5s are much easier... Mike..what's the offset on the new car??
I wonder if my 18x7.5 Enkies are close...

It's kinda like AS. A bunch of cars with more power all chasing a VTEC powered Honda :( lol
Thanks for the welcoming! I don't think I have ever run in DS. We'll see how the car works out. No promises yet. Hoping for good weather this weekend.

Wheels are stamped 42mm. I always get mixed up without a tape measure but I think that means we can run 37mm-47mm offsets. You are going to want to run .25" spacers in the front in all likelyhood to get a little more clearance to the strut body if you have 42mm wheels.
What Enkie's are 18x 7.5, 5 x 110?

Hmmm.... I'll check my Enkeis and see waht they are... I know there was a 35 and 42 offset for the car... Can't remember what i bought.
I have a set of EVO 5 wheels... hyper black.
Enkei makes a number of wheels in 5x110 now...

Took a quick look at Tire Rack for a Supercharged Cobalt and found these. So long as they clear the Brembo's you're set. Enkei Perf LS-5 5-110 18x7.5 ET42 25lbs $173
Enkei Perf WDM 5-110 18x7.5 ET42 25.5lbs $169

WOW. Those are heavy. The 18X8 OZ's for my Sky Redline are ~18.5 pounds. BUT, they are all a lot cheaper than OEM wheels.
Edit: Just got off the phone with Tire Rack. If somebody is in the Chicago area and has a 2008 Cobalt SS, they would like you to call them about stopping by and letting them take some measurements!!!!!!!!!!

Re: New Cobalt SS in DS? If so, does it have a chance?
My Enkei's aren't on TR's site... but they ARE on many other sites... they're in the performance series...
I'll have to check the wieght, but IIRC my stock 18x7s were 24 each, and these are 18 x 7.5s with under 20 each. They come in 35 and 42 mm offset as well.
I can't remember off hand which I got....I paid less than $200 a wheel. The ASA AR1s look good on the Cobalts...

Re: New Cobalt SS in DS? If so, does it have a chance?
I'm interested, along with a certain other ITR floggin' "Wide Boy" .....may need to cross ref VW wheel fitament for the 5x100 thing. of course there are always custom built wheels..... If the diff is as good as the old torsen equipped Calais/SCX's it could be a contender. R.

Car is not as fun as the ZOK Solstice on the autox course. We'll see what more tuning will bring. I think it will do ok in DS on most courses.

Fastmike:
Had a chance to drive a new Cobalt SS around on the streets yesterday. Obviously not the same as autocross runs. Thought that it was a pretty nice car. Surprised at how much torque it had down low. Just couldn't reprogram my brain to take advantage of the no-lift upshift feature - did you use it?

We tried a bunch of different modes. Jury is still out on which is the best.
It is hard to get your brain to not lift between shifts. You need to commit and stay at 100% throttle right near redline or it messes it up. If you do it right, you will hear one pop.

Fastmike,
What does "not as much fun" mean? Slower, pushes more, you just like open cars, harder to drive? What tires were you on?
Thanks,

Re: New Cobalt SS in DS? If so, does it have a chance?
Hmmm....Fun to me means something like this: My Solstice is set up on the autox course is similar to thin slicing roast beef with a good chef's knife. Cobalt is more like cutting the meat with a chainsaw. I mean that in a good way though. Car want to GO!
I can perform surgery of the autox course with the Solstice vs. us playing pinball with the Cobalt right now. We are still figuring stuff out.
Seriously though, I can set up and drive just about anything but there is some math and design challenges with the Cobalt. There is also some really good things about the Cobalt.
I'm pretty sure we will get it all worked out very soon. I already have a pretty good plan that will get us 90% there with minimal work and the basis of the final settings will likely be to based around the 245-35-18 Kumho. ALL of our testing of various Ho-ho's vs the 245 Kumho has the Kumho the more complete and fastest tire on the 18x8 rims. There is something in the way the Ho-ho's are built that I do not prefer. I really like the carcass of the Kumho for testing and running. But! that's just me ya know.
Yea...It is a top heavy FWD car that pushes on high speed sweepers that needs better autox brake and damper set up. FSB is ok for now.

Re: New Cobalt SS in DS? If so, does it have a chance?
We might end up using the electronics in the car. Different diameters will screw with that. "Maybe" in a good way or maybe in a way bad way. Still trying to figure out the programming and what they are doing with the software to analyze the best way to run the car.

Re: New Cobalt SS in DS? If so, does it have a chance?
I think I understand. It sounds like my car with old vs new tires. On new tires, I can hold sweepers very well and put the car anywhere I want, old tires turn the car into a game of point and shoot with excessive oversteer. I'm running the Hoosiers for the first time this season and I have to say I'm very impressed with them, previously on 710's since the first batch came off the boat in 04. I'd heard all the stories about them not being as forgiving at the limit as the kumho, but the difference is very small and easily managed. Ultimate grip does seem to be a bit better (purely subjective, no side by side testing done).
Thanks for the feedback. I'm still trying to see if I can make one work financially. The local dealer still has the one I test drove.
