Re: The Z06 is Dead...July Fastrack

    TedDBere:

Why don't we create a win/win here with regard to the SS part of the proposal.

    1) Leave SS and AS alone for the next two years.

    2) Create two national "demonstration" classes (or whatever they're called) with trophies at Nationals for the next two years.

           a) XS for the Ubber Stock excluded cars.

           b) AS+ for the Tweeners.

Then run the classes and see which class gets the most participation, then decide which class to add for 2010 and beyond.  Everyone is happy as all cars have a place to play, real data is gathered for a good decision, and the current healthy classes aren't upset.

With the price of gas and the current drop in the stock market this proposal may convince some members to attend Nationals where otherwise they may have choosen to skip next year.

I don't think that these two new demsonstration classes will not help with Nationals turn out much. Nor do I think it should have any influence on how to pick cars for classed. I do think however that creating these classes would

    1) be very healthy for stock class competition

    2) create places for existing cars to go when newer faster cars push the current crop of fast cars out of favor.

It would also give the competitors that make up this sport, more fun to drive cars to choose from that are currently burried by more competitve cars.

Re: The Z06 is Dead...July Fastrack

Maybe they are trying to make a place to play for cars like the GT-R.  Out of my price range for this point in my life, but I could see a good number of people running a car like that.  If it can do 0-60 in 3.5 seconds on run flats, then I want to ride along for a few ProSolo practice starts on race rubber.

    I doubt it'll be any faster 0-60 on R-comps.

Re: The Z06 is Dead...August Fastrack

The August Fastrack is out and no 2010 class changes are discussed.

All previous proposals will stand on their own.

If you were going to write a letter now is the time to do it since a decision will be made on the proposals in September.

2010 rule changes don't have to be finalized (and likely won't) until the final BoD meeting in late 2009

I can pretty much guarantee that nothing this big for 2010 will happen this year

another data point, I remember people saying the same thing about the C5 Z06 in Super Stock, then we had 50+ SS grids at Nationals the next several years

This is true, but GM made 40,000 C5 Z06s that don't break when you hit a cone.  Lotus makes less than 200 Elise SC's and Exige S's and they can cost up to $7000 to replace the clam after introducing it to a cone.  Take a look at the front of the top Elise at last year's Nationals!  Tape is a structural element to these cars.  To make a car like that the "car to have" in the class would be a shame, IMHO.

Yes Peter, I drool.  But once again how many are made for the US?  And at $120k and $5000 for every repair it's prohibitive.  Just about every GT3 that I've seen autox nationally has needed some sort of repair exceeding 5K.  My tires bother me at $1300/set...add in 5k everytime something breaks and I now realize why we don't see more of them.  And except for a few top Elises we're not seeing an increase in them either.

Look at Nationals pre registration.  16 C5 Z06s, 7 Elises and no GT3s yet. (I know it's still early)...despite the fact that the GT3 and Elise seem to be the cars to have on HPT's surface.  The owners of the C5 Z06s want to play and attendence would only increase if the class were stable and the price of these cars continue downward.  They can be found now for $22k.   But throwing supercharged, low-volume, Loti and $$$ Porsches into the mix is not promoting increased participation.  IMHO.  Move Nationals to concrete and SS would probably be flooded with more C5 Zs and C6s because they're not only fairly inexpensive to run but fun too.

    Ted, I'm convinced!

I just wrote to the SEB requesting that all C5's be moved to E-Stock with the other cheap and slow sportscars.

We don't want no junky fiberglass Chevys crapping up the stellar looks of the MR2s and Miatas in grid!
