    Re: sts2 crx setups

Has anyone got some comparison info for Cobalt GT-S vs. Hawk HP+ on a CRX (street/autox)?

I'm looking for anything related to comparing

    Bite

    Dusting

    Noise

    Pad life

BHP brakes FTMFW. Contact Matt Nicholson at BHP. His email addy is mnicholson AT bhpbrakes.com. Here's their website. http://www.bhpbrakes.com/HTML/blank/RaceAppHonda.html

No info on dusting or noise, but early adopters are claiming great life, rotor friendly, great modulation and excellent bite. The CR6 flavor is best for Solo work, and Matt is the best sales guy you'll ever run into. Tell him Solo-x sent you and that "Hoppe is a ***" and you'll get a nice discount too. I've got the CR6 for my car, just waiting for the snow to melt to drive on them.

    Re: sts2 crx setups

I had run the Hawk HP+ pads on my CRX for a while before I ran Darrin Disimo's CRX at Nats which had the Cobalts. My first impression of the Cobalts was this:

Initial bite was instantaneous, even when cold. Almost too much bite, especially at HPT. Honestly, it just took getting used to them. We actually went back to stock pads at one point because the surface wasn't conducive to such an aggressive compound of pad. I believe the Hawks would have been the ultimate choice there with not as much initial bite, but overall good braking power.

Dusting: Normal amount of dust with the Cobalts but not nearly as much as the Hawks.

Noise: No noise at all from what I can recall on either pad.

Pad life: The Cobalts lasted through Nationals...No real data on that myself, just ran them at Nats. The Hawks last all year long...maybe 20 autocrosses minimum.

I don't think you can go wrong with either of them. If you can get used to the initial bite of the Cobalts, you might like them better, but I prefer to concentrate on more things than babying the brakes. The Hawks are more forgiving if you stomp on them at first. Overall, both have equal braking power in my opinion. Hope this helps...YMMV.

Hawk HPS will give you something in between the HP+ and OE.  It also works more consistently between cold and warm, whereas the HP+ will get much grabbier as it warms up.  That's what I use.  Matches up really nicely with XXX shoes on the rear. Wink

    Re: sts2 crx setups

BHP Brakes went out of business :( Their CR6 pad was apparently ultimate, all around pad better than the HP+ on/off or the cobalts, etc... damn it and I never got the chance to even try them :-/ They even had the option to fabricate custom pads with the compounds they engineered... sigh so sad.

    Re: sts2 crx setups

I've got BHP CR6's on the hype-r. Incredible pad. My only complaint is crazy dusting and if you overheat them and park the car, you're likely to get some pad deposits on the rotor. Oh, and the hype-r ABS comes on too "late" with them in the rain. Stalling the motor at the same rate the ABS can pulse the brakes is hell on motor mounts. Fortunately, you only get into ABS if you stab the brakes. If you roll into them, you get enough weight onto the front that you can virtually wail on the brake pedal for the rest of the braking zone. In the dry, I almost never get into the ABS. I can't even remember the last time. Very easy pad to modulate.
