I had run the Hawk HP+ pads on my CRX for a while before I ran Darrin Disimo's CRX at Nats which had the Cobalts. My first impression of the Cobalts was this:
Initial bite was instantaneous, even when cold. Almost too much bite, especially at HPT. Honestly, it just took getting used to them. We actually went back to stock pads at one point because the surface wasn't conducive to such an aggressive compound of pad. I believe the Hawks would have been the ultimate choice there with not as much initial bite, but overall good braking power.
Dusting: Normal amount of dust with the Cobalts but not nearly as much as the Hawks.
Noise: No noise at all from what I can recall on either pad.
Pad life: The Cobalts lasted through Nationals...No real data on that myself, just ran them at Nats. The Hawks last all year long...maybe 20 autocrosses minimum.
I don't think you can go wrong with either of them. If you can get used to the initial bite of the Cobalts, you might like them better, but I prefer to concentrate on more things than babying the brakes. The Hawks are more forgiving if you stomp on them at first. Overall, both have equal braking power in my opinion. Hope this helps...YMMV.
