0 Replies and 785 Views Porsche people: What's with the "N" rating?  785  0 Started by  Tony The 'N' rated tires (N0, N1, N2) are tested by Porsche and approved for their cars. What no one seems to know (aside from guessing) is what, if anything, is changed from the exact same tire without the 'N' ratingIf you don't know what I mean go to &91url='http://www.tirerack.com'&93www.tirerack.com&91/URL&93 and check out some of the decent street tires. You can order the same tire with and without the N rating (for different prices). Here's an example: &91url='http://www.tirerack.com/...

4 Replies and 629 Views all autox events?  629  4 Started by  anerd I noticed that I usually have to visit several websites to get a listing of all the autox events nearby (scca, nasa, clubs, etc.). And sometimes, they conflict with each other. It would be nice to goto one place to get a listing of all events that I might be able to attend, then plan my schedule around them. So is it ok to post non-scca autox events here

13 Replies and 861 Views Street Tire Classes  861  13 Started by  Rocky Zamarocy As there are many of us who do not care to buy extra tires/wheels, mount/unmount them at races, nor carry R compound tires/wheels up and down 2 flights of stairs for every event - is there a chance to create a STREET TIRE National Class Here in Cal Club, we are doing quite well with this. As a matter of fact, MORE drivers are in our 2 SK classes (treadwear 140 and higher) than in regular stock classes. You might be surprised at how many MORE driver might show up at events when this occurs.-----...

I undertand that extreme negative camber will be good for AutoX (plan minor toe-out front, toe-in rear). Whats the maximum degree of negative camber that you can run without destroying your street tires (assume frequent rotation) -Chris

4 Replies and 661 Views Saturn - what class?  661  4 Started by  BenMaSC2 I hope to make most every event this year, unlike last year. The first autoX I did was the August event. They put me in street mod for some reason. I had an intake and STB. Anyway I added some things. Currently: intake, muffler, pulleys, springs, struts, STB, rear sway bar, solid upper motor mount. I think the mount and pulleys might bump me up into a higher class that i want to be, and can be removed pretty easily. I'm just wondering about the suspension stuff.-Ben &91url='http://ztechr...

2 Replies and 722 Views Broad Brush Classing Rules (Solo2)?  722  2 Started by  NBM LS1 M6 As one reads the Solo2 rules. . . I am wondering about the de facto exclusions/things that are illegal in a particular class. Were these rules devised excluding certain modifications, as it were with a broad brush, for all cars in all classes without consideration to the specific rationale for these modifications on certain cars Does anyone give any thought to the rationale behind the desires for certain modifications on certain types of carsI have two modifications specifically in mind, e.g...

Hi,I had Kumho Victoracers which were heavier than the stock tires. Although sticky and cheap, their weight could really be felt while driving.Need to get new 205/50-15s for my Miata. 3 Replies and 975 Views SP Rotary Oil Metering Pump restrictions, interpretation and intent  975  3 Started by  Steve Taylor I drive an 86 Mazda RX-7 non-turbo and will be updating the intake manifold to the 89 unit. This mod may be less complicated if I remove the existing mechanical oil metering pump and run 2-cycle oil premixed in the fuel. I'm also considering a less radical mod to the OMP in which it is modified to inject oil from an external reservoir (instead of injecting dirty engine oil from the oil pan). However, there is this statement on page 250 of the Solo rules, in the 'Street Prepared Clarifications' ...

8 Replies and 807 Views F modified rules  807  8 Started by  Larry R. Metz I am asking if the board could explain the ruling as to Gonzales disqualification at Kansas. It was my understanding that decision was based upon the a determination that his modifications were not in line with 'conventional wisdom' or something like that. It seemed to suggest that when the rule says any source, it must be within some sort of conventional thinking. My issue is, how does this apply to the definition of production based cars that run in modified classes Is this a new rule for o...

8 Replies and 1810 Views Need suggestions on F-body Suspension Mods  1810  8 Started by  bigpowr I'll be looking to take my car to the track this coming year, and would like suggestions on improving the factory suspension. Nothing radical, but to improve cornering and frim things up a bit. I don't have long term plans for competitive racing, but plan to get out periodically with it. The car will see some limited drag racing as well. The car is a 2000 Z-28 6 speed convertible with BFG KD's. Yes, I know it's heavy and maybe not the best suited for the track. 3 Replies and 2630 Views lowering my X1/9 and suspension geometry, pickup point relocation???  2630  3 Started by  myronx19 Ok,I race a Fiat X1/9 here in Toronto Canada in GT road racing and Solo 1. Any mods are ok.My question is:I want to lower my car significantly from stock, and most ITC X1/9s are quite low, however the inboard pickup points of the suspension remain the same. The arc of the suspension is now changed. But does it hurt the effect of the suspension if the outer joint of the suspension is higher than the pickup points (Bottoming out the struts won't be a problem, I have Tokico short struts with ...

0 Replies and 762 Views Need opinions on wheel tire setup...competition or street?  762  0 Started by  Patrick [Buffalo] Here's the thing...with a Brembo big brake kit I need 17' wheels. I ran 16' V700s last season before the brake upgrade. I currently run 17' SZ50s, and would need a second set of rims and Kumhos now. My other alternative would be to race (SoloII as well as numerous lapping events at various NE tracks) on the SZ50s. Do you think this would be as gratifying and/or as competitive On the one hand, racing on street tires will give you a better feel for what the car does on the street, which to me...
