0 Replies and 356 Views Relative Newbie with Stock Class Wheel Questions  356  0 Started by  The_Mike Hello everyone!      Several years ago, I attended the odd local autocross in an old beat up MR2. Recently, I had to sell the MR2, but was still bit by the autocross bug. Today, I just competed in my first autocross with my 2011 Golf TDI daily driver, and had a blast. The LRR tires were awful, the gearing was short, but I enjoyed it immensely. Well, at least until I looked at the wear caused to my poor tires! I'd like to purchase a second set of lighter wheels and stickyish stre...

27 Replies and 6215 Views Tires - wider=better?  6215  27 Started by  Daniils
(Topic has multiple pages1 2 )
For autox the wider the tire the better Is there a point at which wider tire becomes detrimental to handling I have a 97 JDM Subaru WRX STI. (its like usdm 2.5 rs with ej20 turbo motor), making about 350hp at the crank. I currently have 205/55/16 RE-11 and lacking grip. So I was planning on getting wider set of tires, rims, and fender flares over the winter. 305/35/18 toyo proxes r888 on 18x10 rim. Thoughts

0 Replies and 1048 Views Tire pressures for kumho ecsta XS  1048  0 Started by  Austincrx I'm trying to get an idea of what kind of pressures the Kumho XS's should be at when up to temperature. Last autocross ( also the first one I have done on these tires) I set them at 38 and they rose to 41 in two runs. I then set them so they would rise to 41psi at the end of a run. We did eight runs, four in the AM and four in the PM. The temperature of the surface rose roughly 10-20 degrees, and air temp rose about 25 degrees in the sun. I was reading that these tires love heat, but ta...

5 Replies and 1759 Views FWD to RWD driving 'feel'   1759  5 Started by  Austincrx In an FWD car, you generally want a pretty loose setup because FWD cars understeer in 99 of cases.  In FWD you get sideways and you can mash the gas to get you out of the slide/spin.  In general, it's pretty easy to control (or at least I've never had any issues controlling my STS crx over the years, no matter how loose it is). I have now moved on to an S2000.  I'm going to run in BS/RTR and have autocrossed it two times now (only owned for a few months).  I have read a lot...

0 Replies and 677 Views Car class  677  0 Started by  duster066 Hey guys, first post long story.   Started a build of a 73 Duster in 2000. The objective changed during the build and the car that resulted was intended for club racing in SPO, built to the 2003 GCR. Long story short the car is just now complete, but club racing is no longer a goal. It is street legal and I'll likely use it for solo and rare track days.   My question is: The solo rules have changed a bunch in the last 10 years. The car is likely CP legal (except maybe fo...

3 Replies and 1198 Views spacers safe in what thickness? (honda related) SM/ DM  1198  3 Started by  Black R I have a DM/ SM honda hatchback (EF). Well, wheels that are oem run 15x6 50 offset. I already have 15x7.5's in 40, 15x8's in 25, and 15x8's in 45. I prefer the sets of 15x8's for 225/45/15 (for obvious reasons). And I'm considering running a set of 245/50/15's for lapping days with these wheels as well. Since I haven't fitted the 15x8's, I just did some quick math and it seems that to get the oem backspacing in the 15x8's, you need a 24 offset. So in order to use the 15x8'...

6 Replies and 2769 Views 1969 Nike Formula Ford  2769  6 Started by  Gary C I'm trying to trace the competition history of my mk6 Nike Formula Ford. I'm restoring it here in England, but it was shipped straight to Bob Smith Racing in Michigan in early 1970, I purchased the car just over two years ago and brought it back home. The original owner and driver was a guy called Tony La Marca, who I am in contact with, but he has no info or log books on the car. Does anyone out there remember the car being raced between 1970 and (say) 1974 in Michigan/Detroit Any info would be...

5 Replies and 1544 Views Pro solo and solo flywheel/clutch/pp recommendations?  1544  5 Started by  cbramey I'm looking to cut as much rotating mass as possible. This is for a chevrolet ls7, less than 600hp. The primary purpose is autocross and road course. I understand their are a number of options with various issues, and that many are lightweight. I hear the rps triples are 41 lbs lighter than stock. I also have to do r compound tire drag race starts. That means riding clutch out hard at 3000 or so. Not dumping it. Finally, it needs to be somewhat streetable and certainly will have to be capabl...
