1 Replies and 2055 Views Mirror swap  2055  1 Started by  jdchristianson I'm thinking about changing the mirrors on my Silverado from stock to larger towing mirrors. I have, over the years, used clip on towing mirrors and basically hated them all . If you have swaped mirrors on your truck, what brand did you use, where did you get them, and did you like them. (Topic has multiple pages1 2 )
I've been going all over the place with trying to decide on a tow vehicle for this season. Right now we're looking at new pickups - most likely either a 2012 Frontier or a 2011 Titan (or possibly their Toyota competitors). The purpose of the vehicle will be a) daily driver for myself and fiance, probably around 5k miles per year of mostly city driving, b) tow vehicle, probably 4-5k miles/year towing. More info on expected towing usage: Will be towing STR S2000 on an open trailer at abou...

17 Replies and 14972 Views Tacoma to tow a Miata?  14972  17 Started by  Fab I am toying with the idea of finally converting my miata to a dedicated STS car. It's currently still a dual purpose car autocross/daily driver. While I will still drive it to local event, I'd rather tow it for out of town events. So I would need a new daily driver that will double as towing vehicle. A Tacoma V6 4x4 is rated at 3,500 lbs towing capacity, the Miata is currently at 2,200 lbs and I figure I can get a lightweight open aluminium trailer that weight 1,000 lbs or less. Would that be e...

I figure LubeGuard could revitalize the fluid which stays behind. Steve H would know :)

Thinking of upgrading to an enclosed, 20' or 24', vnose or flat, depends on what I find. This trailer upgrade will neccessitate a long-overdue truck upgrade. Interested in an EcoBoost F150. Static MTW wise I should have ~30 margin but that's not my concern. Does anybody have experience on long tows with this combo Will it stay in OD 70 on medium grades, pushing all that air Then there's the extremely rare used 5.7 Tundra WITH the good mirrors for a little less. Same deal. Is a 20-24' e...

(Topic has multiple pages1 2 )
I'm looking at small trailers for a new (to me) Formula Ford. The car is 69' wide, 144' long and weighs around 950lb. Keeping it simple, seems like going with a simple utility type trailer would work, particularly if I custom order it (that way I can get stuff like a drop axle and a single front rail, which aren't the typical build). Here's the question: I've been thinking 12' bed, given I want the trailer to easily fit in my garage and to be as light as possible (given it is an angle iron econ...

I'd like to leave the batteries in the equipment truck and stop lugging them home between events. :) The ones I've found all seem 'cheaply' made. :( Thanks, - Lindsay - Colorado Springs, CO

5 Replies and 2437 Views Trailer brake controllers  2437  5 Started by  snaponbob For those that have true proportional brake controllers (such as a Prodigy P2 ), you can help me preach to the uninitiated !!. These things are just fantastic. No more adjusting the controller for low speed (parking lots, gas stations) and then tweaking it for the highway. No more herky jerky at toll booths. Just nice, smooth brake action at any speed. My first experience with these was after installing one on the KC Region tow van. Just a huge advantage....

15 Replies and 9044 Views Anyone tried towing with a camper van and staying at campsites for autocrosses?  9044  15 Started by  IntegraR0064 Hi, So I'm looking at tow vehicles and trying to decide. I've never towed other than the harbor freight tire trailers. I have an STR S2000 that I would drive to local events, but tow it using an open trailer to further away events a) for a more comfortable ride and b) so I can have tools, extra tires, beer, etc. I live in Philadelphia, we'd probably tow to all the pros and tours on the eastern half of the US, and of course nationals. We have no kids with no plans for them ever (do have a do...

I'm looking to get a tow vehicle and an enclosed trailer for my C5Z. Is there a vehicle out there with enough towing capacity, that is also family friendly to use with a couple of kids on weekend trips to Grandma's I'm not a big fan of trucks, but that is what most tow with. My daily driver is just about dead too so I would like to have one vehicle cover all of my needs. Any thoughts Am I asking too much, and should I just get a dedicated tow vehicle Some things suggested to me so far ar...

The seller is balking at delivering it across the border into the US to me. No US commercial transport company I contacted can collect the car over the border, either. How is this typically done Kyle

5 Replies and 5937 Views Liftgate versus Internal Lift: Pros and Cons  5937  5 Started by  David Pintaric Looking at stacker trailers. Some have a liftgate, others with an internal lift. What are the pros and cons of each I like the 'look' of a liftgate. Unloading a car on that lift just looks like you mean business (OK, make fun of me). Internal lifts can be used to work under the car. Help me out. Thanks in advance.

16 Replies and 7285 Views renting a trailer and tow vehicle  7285  16 Started by  mattm I'm starting to research renting a trailer and tow vehicle. A few roadblocks I've hit is that the national rental car cos. aren't thrilled about their vehicles towing (they specifically prohibit it). Renting a small box truck is costly (think .79 a mile, that'll add up fast with 1,300 miles one way). I am looking for thoughts and suggestions for getting my BMW 318i out to Lincoln in August.

19 Replies and 11412 Views Where to get one of those tiny car trailers?  11412  19 Started by  Rocwandrer I am in the market for one of those little car trailers that I sometimes see people with. Something that will be easy to load my low car onto, and safely haul 2100 lbs, but is too light and small to haul anything much bigger with. I can't find anybody locally that has any idea what I'm talking about. I'm in the northeast. I'd consider new or near new used. I want an inexpensive but safe steel trailer that isn't going to cost me any more gas than it has to in order to haul my little car. T...

No need for all-terrains or anything, as the only off-road use it sees is 100ft of my gravel driveway. Thus, I want somethi...

6 Replies and 12195 Views Piano Hinge for Rear Door Ramp  12195  6 Started by  Mugenlude I'm looking to add a ramp to the rear door of the trailer, which means I need to get a piano hinge... I went on McMaster-Carr and there are a crap load of them, and without seeing someone's trailer in front of me I'm not quite sure the size or weight requirements I need. Does anyone have a suggestion (or part number) of a piano hinge that would be used on a car trailer I'd like something stainless steel, and something that isn't going to drop the ramp on the car. =) Thanks.
