24 Replies and 8155 Views How ya' towing? Dually vs. Motor home  8155  24 Started by  Doctor_Fun
(Topic has multiple pages1 2 )
I have read through much of the previous threads and did not quite get my questions answered so here goes. I am a second year autocrosser who is planning to go road racing in the near future. I am looking to start towing the car or cars (depending if I continue to autocross as well). I have been attending divisionals and NT's since I started last year but driving the car to the events. I am looking at an enclosed 24 ft trailer so that part is easy. How to tow it I was planning on a newer ...

6 Replies and 2054 Views Suggestions on Trailer Ramps?  2054  6 Started by  amaff I'm looking for suggestions on where to buy a set of trailer ramps that are strong enough for my Miata (I know, it's HUUGE!... but the ramps I have are rated to about half of what they should be...), about 7' long, without costing an arm and a leg (and that preferably would fit under the car on the trailer). I've been looking online all over but haven't been able to find anything satisfactory at this point. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks~Andrew

33 Replies and 12564 Views Towing with a Van  12564  33 Started by  fourwhls
(Topic has multiple pages1 2 )
I would like some input from those of you that tow with vans. I am looking for a new tow vehicle and a van seems to be a logical choice.I will be towing a 18ft open trailer with a Miata or E46 BMW, but I don't want to limit my towing capacity to just that. I want something 3/4 or 1 ton. I tow to local AX events 2-3 times a month and to the road courses 4-5 times a year. (3-8hrs away)I usually camp at the road courses in a tent, so throwing an air mattress in the back of a van seems all too ea...

2 Replies and 1273 Views Towing with RVs Question  1273  2 Started by  David Pintaric In most (if not all) states, the RV and trailer limit is anywhere from 65 to 70 feet in combined vehicle length. So, in a state where the max length is 65 feet, a 40' Class A a 24' tag (24' box with a 4' tongue) is going to be too long by 3 feet. In turn, a 33' toter home with a 40' stacker is going to be 8 feet too long.So what happens when you get pulled over and the officer measures the combined vehicle length A fine Or is a CDL required And if a CDL is required to drive an RV/trailer co...

5 Replies and 1923 Views 2010 Nissan Frontier  1923  5 Started by  Pedro H I'm considering buying a pick-up truck and have narrowed my choices down between an F150 and the Frontier (with the 4 liter V6 and 6-speed manual transmission). I plan on using the truck (once I finish my MBA in about a year) to tow an autocross car (2,500-3,000 lbs) about ten to twelve times a year -- a couple of those trips might invole long distances. The F150 seems great, but its fuel mileage and size scare me a bit considering this would also be my daily-driver. On the towing side of t...

10 Replies and 2163 Views Open steel trailer - thoughts and recomendations  2163  10 Started by  DrJones_CMR Well my friend wants his 18' featherlite back for his STR car. This will leave me trailer less.I have been looking on-line and see there are about 1 Million makers of 18-20' open steel trailers. I'm looking for peoples thoughts and recommendations on these (i.e. stay away from this brand, go with a 20' over an 18' because...) I looked through the towing discussions and there are no recent thread on it so i figured it'd be a good idea to start a new one. Thanks, Alex

30 Replies and 7117 Views Tire trailer for 315s  7117  30 Started by  SMSupercoupe
(Topic has multiple pages1 2 )
I think perhaps the time has come for me to get a tire trailer instead of putting two tires on the back seat, one under the hatch, and one in the passenger seat of my Camaro. Most of the tire trailer pics I've seen have been for little cars with little tires, though, so I was hoping some Corvette, Mustang, Camaro, or other big car guys toting big tires might have some input and maybe even some pics of a good trailer to fit my needs. Thanks!

It must be off-season, since I have all sorts of things running through my head. While I am kind of looking at downsizing from my 8.5x20' enclosed trailer in order to get better fuel economy (maybe in combination with a different tow vehicle), part of me is still thinking diesel truck. I am looking for more info to help me making up my mind and would appreciate info on the following topics: - Chevy vs. Dodge vs. Ford (which is better, more reliable, less expensive, better fuel mileage) - A...

10 Replies and 5958 Views Suggestions for strapping down 2007 Miata  5958  10 Started by  Dat73 Looking for suggestions for strapping down a 2007 Miata to my friends trailer. He uses this trailer for a corvette, but the Miata does not have any good tie down points under the car so we were thinking of using the wheel net type straps, but not sure how to tie them down since the car's wheels are not next to the tie down hooks. Can we tie them down at an angle or should we get some new hooks welded onto the trailerHere's the car on the trailer. Here's the picture of the rear wheel. There's...

Ok, I have 165,000 miles on my 03 Sierra Denali--Quadrasteer. I love this truck, but I just bought a new set of tires (due to blowout on the way to Lincoln), and rebuilt the front differential on the way back from Lincoln (4 days in Paducah, KY...fun...fun). Truck needs, I think are a throttle position sensor, and the usual coolant flush, and transmission fluid change.....running pretty quiet since diff has been fixed---since it was making some noise for about the last 100,000 miles or so. 6 Replies and 1870 Views Towing with a lifted truck?  1870  6 Started by  ratt_finkel I'm looking at purchasing a 02-04 ish F250 4dr turbo diesel. Most of the examples I've looked at have about 100-150k on the clock. I've also found some in my price range with 3'-12' lifts on them. This will be my 1st truck and primarily used as my dd. But will be towing a 5k lb trailer twice a month. Question is, what should I lookout for and what if any complications are there in towing with a lifted truck.

31 Replies and 21778 Views How to attach elect winch in enclosed trailer  21778  31 Started by  toy4speed
(Topic has multiple pages1 2 )
Hello Everyone, I'm considering upgrading to an enclosed car trailer. The open trailer has been good, just decided its time to upgrade to the security/convenience of an enclosed unit. My question is how hard is it to mount an electric winch on the floor of an enclosed trailer I don't have an enclosed trailer yet, so don't have a floor or frame to go check out. I know that ordering a new trailer it is an option to have a winch mount installed, but what if I buy a used trailer, then I would...
