I bought an e150 conversion van with my business partner last year for $850 and threw a hitch and brake setup on it. We pulled out a seat and slept in it at the track. The old girl went 5,000 miles before this winter when all hell broke loose. I'm at the point where it isn't worthwhile to put a grand into a $850 van thats 20 years old. So it's time to update. My requirements are under $4,000, newer than 1992, capable of pulling 5,000 lbs, reliable, not ford, and something I can sleep in ...

9 Replies and 12629 Views Reinforcing frame rail extension and beefing up hitch on class C?  12629  9 Started by  mwood Here's the deal: I have a 2005 built 24' Winnebago Class C. Over the last few years, I've towed both my old Z06 and RX8 on open trailers, which I figure is probably in the 4900-5100lbs range. Tongue weight I would estimate in the 500-600 range. Now, I'm looking at towing my Mustang, which adds about 300-400lbs to the equation. I know I've been exceeding the manufacturer's reccomendations on tongue weight, as the Class III hitch on the RV (although rated at 500lbs like all class III's) is limite...

I have an '06 Honda CR-V that I'm planning to tow my STS2 Miata with...The CR-V has a relatively low towing capacity, so I'm thinking of getting a tow dolly (the other option would be an aluminum trailer...which is a bit too $$) - is there anything I should watch out for-I'd plan to tow the miata backwards (lock the steering wheel) and put some all seasons on the front.-the CR-V max towing weight is 2,500 lbs...the miata weight 2,000 and most dollys are 500 lbs. *I'd plan to tow from Seattle t...

10 Replies and 1466 Views External filtration for automatics  1466  10 Started by  atcovan I see there is a filter specific for trans fluid, such as the WIX 57702 cartridge for the Super Duty Fords, rated for 1 micron. Can I use a standard engine oil type, which are usually rated at 19 microns, or is that useless because of the larger micron rating I have an Aveo which has no filter at all, so I'd like to try something external. Your thoughts, please.

11 Replies and 3862 Views Best Performing Duramax Exhaust?  3862  11 Started by  gtldvm In today's market, and the fact that I have 3 payments left on my 2005 GMC 2500HD Crew Cab 4X4 Short Bed Duramax Diesel, I'm looking forward to having a really great truck WITHOUT a truck payment! But now that I'm racing a lot nationally, I am putting a pretty fair amount of towing mileage. To date, the only changes I've made to the truck is the 'Juice w/ Attitude' from Edge, and a K & N filter/intake. I have heard that a new exhaust would give me better performance AND fuel mileage per g...

Hey guys. Plan for next season is to start towing our autocross car (2250lbs) to the occasional far away event. Driving a 22 year old Street Prepared car with 250K miles to an event, autocrossing it, and praying it doesn't break down on us somewhere in between doesn't sound too appealing to me anymore. So here is what I'm looking for...-Under 6k (preferably) as I don't want payments on a vehicle I will not drive all too much. -Truck (I got a lot of great info from Steve H. about vans but having ...

(Topic has multiple pages1 2 )
I'll be looking at a 2000 2wd Excursion with the 7.3 l turbo diesel next week to replace the Aerostar Minivan we've been using to get from racetrack to racetrack. My reasoning for going with the Excursion over a four door pickup with a cap is fairly simple. My son and I love the freedom of being able to move around in the van, sleep/camp in the van, and be able to turn the area behind the front seats into a 'lounge' at the track for my son, his friends, and the dog to play their video games. ...

6 Replies and 10844 Views Tying down a car in an enclosed trailer - Is e-track strong enough? Please post your towing tips for noobs  10844  6 Started by  gpny I just bought a used 16*7 Haulmark Enclosed trailer that I will be using first to move, and then hopefully to store and tow my honda civic. I know i will need to winch the car up onto the trailer as I wouldn't be able to get out of the car otherwise... I was thinking of using e-track to help guide the car in and to tie it down once it's in. That said, is e-track strong enought to hold the car down. How should the e-track be bolted into the trailer which has 3/4' thick plywood floors an 16' On C...

(Topic has multiple pages1 2 )
I've got trailer brake issues. I can hear and feel the brakes come on but they are ineffectual. If I get the rig going at about 20 mph and slide the manual control to full (with gain at full), the rig will slow but it'll take about 300' to stop (not using van brakes). My van has a new Prodigy in it. I checked the voltage coming into the brake controller and it was over 12 v. Checked the voltage at the rear of the tow vehicle: 12 v. Checked the voltage at the magnets: 11.5v. Adjuste...

12 Replies and 8401 Views Ford E350 making noises - Really!  8401  12 Started by  skisoloii I have a 24 foot class C Ford E350 Motorhome, with which I tow a moderate amount - it used to tow much more. In the last couple of seasons, it has developed a rattle sound under acceleration - 'crowded throttle' which is just before a downshift. I flushed and changed the fluid in the tranny, checked the U-joints. Does anyone know of any resonances in the driveline which could account for this, or do you think I'm about to spring for a tranny rebuild Any help would be appreciated. Dave (PPPPPP...

The past few years have been spent off roading & hauling Jeeps around with my son. He's off to college and losing interest in off roading. So I'm off to faster fun. I just purchased a Solo Vee. It's in Kansas, I fly out to get it next week. Anyway, I had built a Uhaul moving van into a jeep hauler / workshop / camper. Kind of redneck, but worked well for us! The Uhaul will be the parking spot for the Vee, as well as a transport. Changing it over to handle a low...
