10 Replies and 1799 Views Is it worth it to upgrade.  1799  10 Started by  Joe_914 I am towing my 1800 pound 914 on a steel 18 ft car hauler trailer with a 99 F150 4.6L Lariet with 6' lift and 32' tires air bags in the back. I am wanting to upgrade to a 2002 or 2003 buy a F250 7.3L turbo Diesel . super cab 8ft bed. Not a lot of power in the F150 cold air intake even with a evolution tuner set to tow. Probably the big tires are not helping the 355 gear ratio at all. Milage wise I get about 11 MPG towing 70 MPH about 16 MPG empty I have heard the 7.3L powerstrokes ...

33 Replies and 5420 Views Car's that can tow cars...  5420  33 Started by  SubaDrew
(Topic has multiple pages1 2 )
I don't like big trucks and I like good gas mileage... I'm starting to think about getting a tow rig, but I'm on a budget and sort of just to be different, I'm looking at cars that can tow. I found that the early to mid 90's chevy caprice and buick roadmaster were rated to tow 5k lbs. Anyone know any others It'll likely be ugly no matter what, but as long as it runs well and pulls good, I'd be happy. Suggestions

1 Replies and 806 Views Looking at a trailer, is this a good deal?  806  1 Started by  CKEvo I'm looking at a very good condition 2006 Haulmark 24' trailer in silver. Guy said he has used it twice and he appears to be telling the truth as the trailer and tires looked brand new. Underbody showed no rust (only surface) or mud.The features it has are: 10k GVW. White interior, extra wide rear entrance door, left and right 'camper style' doors, 8k lb winch, power tounge, vents, lights. He also upgraded the D rings as well and it has a new spare tire (wow!) The guy wants 8000$ for it, said th...

2 Replies and 808 Views Looking at a 99 ford e-350 van for future towing... Advice?  808  2 Started by  SubaDrew any advice for what to look for/ask about I've never towed anything and never had a large vehicle. I'm thinking a van because I want to use it for karting (store the kart in the back w/ no trailer) and later for towing the car to 3-4 out of state races a year. the one I'm looking at is the cargo version with the basic 5.4l engine.

13 Replies and 13975 Views installing wt. distrib. hitch to trailer  13975  13 Started by  toy4speed Hello, I just purchased an enclosed trailer, after pulling a 16ft open trailer for the past 7 yrs. So finally made the leap to enclosed security, convenience, comfort, etc. However, the larger trailer needs a weight distributing hitch, and I'd like to install one, along with a sway control (cam style). My problem is that the trailer is a V-nose, and the amount of exposed framing in the front tongue area is limited due to the V-nose of the trailer. Seems like the bracket the chains for the sp...

7 Replies and 17434 Views Nose cones on enclosed trailers  17434  7 Started by  tholt29 Has anyone ever added a nose cone or bubble to the front of their enclosed trailer How painful was it, how much did it cost and what kind of milage improvement did you see I've got a 2004 Pace Shadow that has been a great trailer. When I bought it, I estimated that it would take about 7 years to justify the expense of the adding the ~$700 nose cone option from the builder. Of course that was based on $1.80ish diesel and most of our local events being within 10 miles of home. Since then diese...

10 Replies and 2796 Views 06 Pathfinder rear end sag  2796  10 Started by  Jedi_N_Training I need some recommendations for curing the rear end sag on my Pathfinder. I've got a standard 16' wood deck, dual axle trailer hauling an 89 civic. I've found that loading the civic rear end first feels best on the road. That puts the engine pretty much right over the rear axles. Truck felt 100 better with it this way. I put a 2' drop receiver on to level out the trailer and it does sit pretty darn level right now, but the rear of the truck is sagging a bit more than I'd like. I'd prefer it...

10 Replies and 2156 Views Is WDH needed towing 4k w/ Grand Cherokee?  2156  10 Started by  mov_ovr I've towed w/ Grand Cherokees in the past with great success, always with a weight distributing hitch. I'm in the market for a trailer and looking into a Featherlite open trailer, the problem being that it has a closed A-frame that would not allow the use of a WDH. I'd like to get opinions from anyone towing with a Grand Cherokee and an open trailer. Are you able to tow comfortably without a WDH I'd be most concerned about the front end pointing skyward and the rear end bobbing. I've had e...

8 Replies and 1771 Views Request: length of tire trailer w/ 12" wheels  1771  8 Started by  dnace Greetings, I was wondering if any of you have the haulmaster mini utility trailer (40-1/2' x 48' bed) typically sold at harbor freight. I need to know the length from rear to hitch, to know if this will fit in my garage. The reason why I ask is there is conflicting information on the website vs. in person on the one with 8' wheels and I assume the 12' one has the same problem. Any help on this is greatly appreciated. Also do any of you guys run mini tire haulers with 8' wheels I am wond...

3 Replies and 1078 Views Dodge 24 valve diesel truck owners  1078  3 Started by  Harlan So here I sit for my 3rd day in Rawlins wyoming trying to get my truck fixed. For anyone that owns one of these trucks 98.5 to current. They use a VP44 injector pump which requires a lower pressure feed pump 10PSI minimum for a non-modded truck. The pumps are reliable until the low pressure pump fails. (stock looks like carter race pump) Once the low pressure pump fail to provide fuel to the intake side of the diesel pump the main pump starts to burn itself up. (2500 bucks if your lucky) Well ba...

I ask this as I will be working a 24 hr race down at Moroso in January and all the equipment being used in the race will be transported in a toter home with a tr...

6 Replies and 2095 Views How do Trailer brakes work?  2095  6 Started by  Joe_914 got a 18ft open steel car hauler. tandem axle looks like 10' brakes on just the rear axles and they don't work. wires have been cut some time by previous owner. Pulled a wheel off and looked in there. &91:|&93 Best as I can see there is a magnet thing that swings on a pendulum arm. Hooked 12V to it and nothing. So does it need to have the drum on it for the magnet to attract too The shoes are movable by hand so it should work. Where does the power come from. F150 has a brake co...

8 Replies and 1314 Views diesel help!!! - or new vehicle?  1314  8 Started by  rerun so yet again my truck did not make it back from Topeka. Well it would have if I didn't stop at friend's house to attempt to change the fuel filter which was giving me problems (high differential across the filter on my boost/vacuum gauge and no power going up hills). So we made the mistake by putting the filter on without pre-filling it. I attempted to prime it with the lever on the lift pump, but we got lots of air in the system. Cranked it and it started until we hit the huge air pocket. We c...
