7 Replies and 2863 Views Solo Nationals Weather  2863  7 Started by  bruecksteve Once again, I'll be making daily updates to help keep you informed about the weather. I have an updated Solo Nationals Weather page this year: as well as a new blog post with graphics: Right now it looks as though it will be cooling down after Monday and then a possible frontal passage on Friday. Still a ways out though. See y'all there! :-)

9 Replies and 2788 Views swapping cars mid event at an solo question  2788  9 Started by  Itsa914 So the topic came up at one of our events about swapping cars mid event during a solo. Not because of a mechanical issue, but just to drive a different car. An example was given of driving a FP car then changing to a ASP car. Should the times ran in the ASP car be index at the FP index of ASP Tired looking up in the solo rules, but didn't find an answer. Maybe I missed it

4 Replies and 4158 Views Street tires better than r-compounds on dirty surfaces?  4158  4 Started by  Primetime Glick Does anyone think/know if street tires are an advantage over R-compounds on low-grip, dirty asphalt surfaces I'm pondering replacements for my hardened Z214 C71s and my excuse-laden gut tells me they evacuate gravel better, while I always feel like I'm 'skating' on my impacted-gravel-covered Z214s. Maybe streets are more predictable/consistent on dirty lots but offer a lower overall grip threshold FWIW I'm eyeballing RE71Rs. $150 savings over a set of 4, too. -Adam

3 Replies and 4121 Views Autocross course design tools  4121  3 Started by  Duke W I'm the autocross chair - and by default, the chief course designer - for a regional sports car club. I thought I would contribute my method and the tools I've developed in order to design courses and lay them out on site. Hopefully somebody here can put them to good use. I use a free, easy-to-use program called SketchUp . It is a 3-dimensional design and drawing program with a *really* low learning curve. It is remarkably intuitive and fairly lig...

1 Replies and 1340 Views Looking for co-drive at 2015 Solo Nationals  1340  1 Started by  kombi73 Hey, I am coming up to Nationals with a small group from Hawaii Region. I have 6yrs exp mostly in SM,SMF and ESP the last two seasons. I've also been getting seat time in STU and CS cars to build experience for nationals. It's way to expensive to ship across the ocean across so I need to find a co-drive. Anyone headed to Lincoln and have an open seat Thanks, Daniel

1 Replies and 1060 Views Looking for a co-drive for WIlmington Tour  1060  1 Started by  MilesJ I had 2 co-drives lined up, you know in case the first one fell through, and now both are gone :( I have experience in the old Stock classes in a Solstice and RX8, as well as some limited STX experience in the RX8. I haven't autocrossed much over the last 4 years but I signed up for this Tour and I'm not bailing just because my rides dried up. I'm open to anything.

2 Replies and 1163 Views Help with classing a 1995 Saab 9000 Aero  1163  2 Started by  bdrsaab Hey, I'm new to Autocross and having some trouble determining which class I should be racing in. Was hoping the forum could offer some guidance etc. Here's what I have: 1995 Saab 9000 Aero - stock this car should be putting out 220 hp w/ 250 lbs-ft. For those not familiar its a 4 doorhatch sedan, 2.3L straight 4 engine with a TD04 turbo, front wheel drive, 5 speed manual. When new it was classed as a 'full-size' car. Beyond stock I've made the following performance mods: - Koni sp...

0 Replies and 771 Views SportsCar Writers -- Need a few more  771  0 Started by  spitfire4gp The 'discount' entry deadline for Nationals is Tuesday and I still need a few more people to cover classes for SportsCar. Even if you’re there only the days you run, I may be able to use you depending on how the run schedule works out. Writing talent isn’t really the high priority. Just being able to be there and see what’s happening is what’s most important. Especially if you enjoy talking to drivers about autocrossing. If you can help, reply to me at and give me yo...

0 Replies and 955 Views R Comp Search  955  0 Started by  CastleWorks Hi All, After 23 years away from Solo competition, I am planning to 'come out of retirement' I am looking for R comps in the following sizes but having difficulty finding one of them. 245/40-18 285/40-18 (having trouble finding this one) I see Hoosier makes a 295/40-18 in their catalog, which I can live with but I have not been able to find a distributor who has them. I am open to other manufacturers if anyone has recommendations. Thanks! Kevin

5 Replies and 1536 Views Should cars line up at the start based on front wheel or the car body?  1536  5 Started by  madame_toussleau I autocross with a local non SCCA club where 1 starter lines the front wheel of every car up at the start line. I've always lined cars up based on the front most part of the car body. It's a small difference so I shouldn't care, but I think the physical car breaks the light and should be used. Maybe I'm missing something in the SCCA rule book but I don't see it. I did ask our local SCCA starters who just said the car body which makes sense to me but does anyone know if this subject ...

5 Replies and 1475 Views Solo scoring question: Off course, or not?  1475  5 Started by  EJEvo Today during our Solo event, we had a situation that caused some discussion in the timing tent and we still aren't completely sure which way it should go in the books. Our course today had a loop element in it to help extend the run length on our rather small parking lot site. We had a competitor mistakenly do the loop twice, rather than once, and exit on to the rest of the course after accidentally going through the same portion twice. Some of us believed that should be considered an off cou...

0 Replies and 705 Views FSP? STS? What Class  705  0 Started by  end005 Hello. I'm trying to figure out what class my brother's car is in. I have tried google and have found no real good answer since most results come back for hatchbacks and the SI model. I'm trying to figure out the appropriate class for a 1996 Honda Civic EX coupe. It has: -coilovers -Intake -Header -Catback exhaust -195 - Toyo R1R on 15x7 Enkie RPF1s. I'm thinking he may be in STS but, I see a lot of CRXs and EF Civics in this class and never a mention of his car. I'm also thinking h...

0 Replies and 735 Views 2015 Solo Nationals – Join the SportsCar Crew  735  0 Started by  spitfire4gp I’m the Chief of Writers at the 2015 Solo Nationals (Sept 8-11 in Lincoln, Neb.). Do you enjoy writing I need about two dozen writers to cover the event. Ideal is people there all four days -- Tuesday-Wednesday drivers who can cover Thursday-Friday classes -- but same-day drivers/writers is possible depending on what the run/work order ends up being. We won’t know that until August, so I need a list of volunteers to draw from now. The perks are: 1-This counts as your work assignment, ...

2 Replies and 1473 Views Class question - '15 Mustang GT  1473  2 Started by  kz Need some help determining the class for my car - I'm just starting, all I've done so far was to take Starting Line class. '15 Mustang GT, non Performance Pack car. Added OEM strut tower brace (a while ago) which is standard on Performance Pack GT Mustang car (which mine is not). Does the brace put me in STU or CAM-C then (not that it really matters at this point as I'll be out there for learning mostly).
