Was thinking about this at nationals and since I got home - I wrote up a rough draft of a proposal, and thought I would bring it here to see what people thought. Warning: these are big changes, but I genuinely believe it would be good for SCCA and participation overall: Proposal for 2015 Solo Season Purpose: Class rearrangement for higher participation numbers for regional and national level events, as well as “phasing” out some older hard to find cars for newer ones. This ...

5 Replies and 2044 Views Genesis Coupe/370z classing and competitiveness  2044  5 Started by  coneassasin I've been playing around with the idea of buying a 14' gen coupe r spec for Street. It's pretty obvious that no one has spent any time developing these cars for street classes. I know there is an issue with good aftermarket dampers, but I think I've got that part figured out. My question is this: why is the 370z and Gen coupe not in the same class  The cars are very similar in size, weight, power, the one exception being that the gen coupe has narrower wheels.  Those difference...

12 Replies and 2778 Views NA Solstice in BS ?  2778  12 Started by  sam8white 1st, let me say I'm not a serious solo'er.   I'm a serious road racer, familiar w/ road race GCR, not Solo. But I would appreciate a serious answer.............   I very occasionally compete with a bone stock NA Solstice,  with a local group that uses primarily SCCA rules, except they've kept R compound tires out of Stock classes.   Sounds like the new Street classes intent.....based on the little I've recently learned. Last couple years, I was classed CS, and against MX5...

6 Replies and 1863 Views Track Modifications in Street Class   1863  6 Started by  ltborg I'm looking at doing a few modifications to my B-Street car to make it more reliable at track days. One of the things I would like to do is add the C5 Z06 rear brake ducts, which require a hole/vent in the rocker panel of the car (see these picture instructions for details).   Since the ducts themselves bolt in with a single bolt, what I am wondering is if I removed these for autocross competition and blocked the vent in the rocker and inner fender, would this be considered a comfort and ...

8 Replies and 3118 Views 4th gen WS6/SS F-body in FS - will street tires make it more competitive than in years past?  3118  8 Started by  2MCHPWR hi - looking into getting a stock one to relive my past I haven't AX'ed in years but looking to start again so please forgive some of these questions. 17x9's - is 295 a good size for AX I know the shelby's and mustangs have been pretty dominant in years past. But with the switch from R compounds, will the lighter f-bodies have a better chance Would a roll up window, hardtop Fbody with 1LE suspension (from the factory so legal stiffer springs than normal fbody, stiffer bushings but also a s...

15 Replies and 4933 Views 2012 Cayman R, tire selection/size help  4933  15 Started by  djm1968 Hello, I am researching this seasons tire choice.  I take part in autox and also in a hillclimb organization that uses SCCA Solo rules; the hillclimbs are essentially a two mile, up hill, time trial. My current setup: OZ Alleggerita HLT 8.5 x 18' - 53mm 10 x 18' - 40mm Nitto NT01 245/35/18 F 275/35/18 R I have my selection narrowed down to either the Dunlop Direzza ZII or BFG g-Force Rivals. The know BFG's are supposedly the hot ticket in tw200 range, but as they are new,...

9 Replies and 4151 Views C7 Z51 with or w/o MRC?  4151  9 Started by  nathanprovo I have a 2014 Corvette Z51 on order w/o MRC (magnetic ride control), I have a few days to change the order, so I wanted to get any thoughts on how well these shocks/technology might perform when compared to aftermarket adjustables. I have been running a C5Z06 with koni singles for the past 10 years on r-comps.  I will likely be running the C7 in Super Street.

Given the changes to street tires and some of the classing changes...voice your opinions on the dominant car(s) in each class. To start the discussion: SS - Elise...can anything catch it on street tires AS - no idea here...newer cayman/boxter S BS - C5, S2000 (likely to be very course dependent; curious if NSX might sneak in there...) CS - NB Miata Sport, FRS/BRZ seem like contenders.  Any thoughts on e36M3, or NISMO350Z DS - 3.2TT, 2011 WRX ES - 1.8 miata R FS - no idea here.....

8 Replies and 2182 Views Electronic shock electronics question  2182  8 Started by  sjfehr SCCA Solo rule 13.5 permits non-electronically controlled shocks to replace electronically controlled shocks, but isn't clear how the electronic bits are to be handled when the electronic shocks are removed, or the associated option package installed.   Where electronically controlled shocks have external electronic control units dedicated to the shocks and serve no other purpose, are they considered part of the shock assembly, with all that implies  I'm thinking they'd fall into th...

I plan on doing a season long video series of our Rocky Mountain Solo championship series, from my point of view in C-Street. My STX project is coming along (some may have seen posts on other forums) and I hope to have it somewhat prepped by the end of summer! Hope you enjoy!  Latest RX-8 event, f...

3 Replies and 1586 Views Volvo S60 T6 allowed in GS?!?  1586  3 Started by  viper_tgb@hotmail.com There is no way this can be right. A 6 cylinder AWD Turbo car under 4,000 lbs competing against things like non-tubro mazda6's, altima's, sentra's, and non-turbo imprezza's. Looking at the specs for the Volvo I can't imagine it being classed anything less than ES.  Looking in DS and seeing very close competitors for the Volvo like the Mazdaspeed6, Eagle Talon AWD, Eclipse GSX, Audi TT quattro makes me think it probably belongs here in DS. Does anyone know the reasoning behind this beast b...

11 Replies and 9174 Views C5 Z06 Optimal Wheel and Tire Sizes for 2015 rules  9174  11 Started by  blake.wilson@pmcs.com I picked up a 2003 C5 Z06 and am trying to figure out how to set up the tires/wheels for Solo 2.  I went to an event this weekend and saw someone running stock 17x9.5 F and 18x10.5 R wheels with 255/40/17 front and 315/30/18 rears with BFG Rivals.  The fronts are limited in width by sizes that BFG makes for 17 inch wheels. Since we can change wheel diameter by /-1 inch I'm thinking to buy some wheels that are 18x9.5 F and 18x10.5 R which opens up the front tire options. If I do...

2 Replies and 1379 Views DS Audi TT what to look for?  1379  2 Started by  tom.capelo@humanoid.net I saw that the 2008 Audi TT did well in 2013 in DS. Is there something special about the 2008, or was that just a statistics of small numbers kind of thing Anything special I should look for in one to buy I gather the 3.2 V6 is the motor to have. Many thanks for the advice. A little bit about me: I have done years of autocrossing with a 4th gen Camaro in FS, and a PT Cruiser GT Turbo in GS. We want a TT as a daily driver, AWD would be nice for snow, and it would be fun to have a shot at 1st i...
