7 Replies and 1254 Views Prothane Inserts  1254  7 Started by  Drm12 Hello, I am new here and am sorry if this has been asked.  I am a bit confused by the new rules.  I have an old Saturn SL2 and I am considering trying it out in Stock (Street) class.  Unfortunately, the OEM rubber material inside the engine torque strut mount is torn and I need to replace it.  The main OEM rubber section does not completely fill the mount enclosure.  I would like to repair the mounts (trany has one too) with Prothane inserts (which are so...

4 Replies and 1512 Views Thoughts on 17 wheels for F-Street E46 M3  1512  4 Started by  dr47watson@gmail.com What are yall's thoughts on 17' wheels for the M3 Pros: It opens up more tire choices, may lower the CG a bit, reduce weight, and possibly improve gearing. Cons: Ive been snooping around and have not found any off the shelf 17' wheels that would fit, other than older factory (heavy) wheels for other BMWs. Might change gearing too much. Other Richard

4 Replies and 1345 Views Staggering tire sizes and brand  1345  4 Started by  Cligedy I will be running a Fiesta ST this season. The car is new enough that there is still some question about what tires could fit on the FiST, and because I have limited funding, I made the decision to buy a pair of the 225/50 Rivals and 225/45 Dunlop Z2. I liked the idea of getting a few extra mph at the top of second with the Rivals, but was worried that they wouldn't fit. Now that I have fitted them, the Rivals rub near full lock, but I don't expect that to be an issue. If I had known for s...

1 Replies and 1245 Views STM Aluminum Exhaust  1245  1 Started by  cretinx STM recently prepared a custom aluminum exhaust for my RX-8. The exhaust was built for SCCA Autocross 'Stock' class competition.  This means it can be replaced from the catalytic converter backwards, and must comply with a 95 db sound limit.  It must exit the stock exhaust location. We went from a dual to a single setup.  They used thick wall aluminum with their welding expertise, retained the factory resonator and went with a single muffler.  The ...

11 Replies and 3417 Views B Stock, Corvette ZR1 in autocross? Why don't we see them?  3417  11 Started by  Arachnyd I currently run a Stock C5. I was thinking about picking up a C4 Z51 because they seem pretty competitive in B-Stock plus I love them, but came across a great deal on a C4 ZR1. I see some non-ZR1s which have competed competitively in BS nationally, but can't figure out why I've never seen a ZR1 raced competitively. Its not listed as a excluded car, and on paper it looks like it would be incredibly effective as a competitive BS car. Now days they are about the same price as a base&n...

6 Replies and 1990 Views So I went to my first autocross event..  1990  6 Started by  filter27e ..and I loved it. I have a 2011 WRX that I was able to finally make it to an event in and I had a blast, it's definitely something I'd love to do more of.  I caught an event in NC even though it was the tail end of the season, I'll have the winter to plan my participation for next year.   I travel for work, at least for now.  The reason this is relevant is because my WRX is my only car, and I drive it everywhere... a lot.  Without running out to check I think I'm between 75-...

12 Replies and 3213 Views C5 Z06 inAS in 2014 - Thoughts  3213  12 Started by  nmscot I'm returning to stock classes after recently getting a C5 Z06.     With the new rules changes starting next year I'm thinking about running both SS (as I just started running) and AS next year with the idea to prep for full Street Tire rules in taking effect 2015. What are folks thoughts about the prospects of a Z06 in AS     Was thinking this might be an interesting thread.

(Topic has multiple pages1 2 3 ... 4 )
Posed this question in another thread but I thought I'd make a separate thread for it:   Just a general question:  what is the general point/goal of the street/stock class update - is it to appease nat level drivers, local drivers, novices, decrease costs all around, get new members into the sport/hooked, etc. Or make national events more competitive, local events more competitive, etc.  As far as I can tell, the general idea seems to be to be to decrease costs and ...

(Topic has multiple pages1 2 )
Now that the new 2014 C7 corvettes are available at dealers, anyone know what the current thinking is on stock classing for them On paper it looks like the C7 may not quite keep up with a grand sport being a bit heavier and having noticeably less wheel/tire width, but the available electronic diff may help in tight turns. For reference C&D measured a 2010 grand sport at 3377lbs and a z51 C7 at 3444lbs (both presumably with full tanks). Grand sport has 9.5' and 12' wheels, C7 has 8.5' and...

15 Replies and 1817 Views e-LSDs  1817  15 Started by  kyoo Thought I'd throw this q out here - by e-LSD, I'm referring to cars that use braking of the inside wheel during cornering/accel to simulate a mechanical LSD - would you guys say this is preferable to a completely open diff I realize it's highly dependent on the car, so in this case I'm thinking of the base Mini Cooper 2011 - no mechanical LSD offered, just either open diff or 'EDLC'. There's no throttle cut or anything like that, but EDLC will always be on. Sounds like it might be okay for aut...
