So what's the best car/trim to buy for SS solo & prosolo?
well I am mainly looking at the Elise(what trim should I get?) & C6 Z06(is that slower than the C5Z06? btw I do notice Matt B. won with that in Pro Final but how does it perform in Solo and also what trim should I get?)
Thank,
JR.

In the C6 space, I would be considering a Grand Sport, or new Z06 with the ZR1 goodies - I think they call it Z07? The C5 Z will be very very close to those for a whole lot less. |

How come in the C6 you would only choose the Grand Sport but not the Z06?? ZR1 is out of my price range.
I am only looking for used C6 or new/used Elise
thx for the quick responce btw |

Like the Viper, C6 Z06 is geared too tall. Grand Sport has better 2nd-gear acceleration and still a plenty-high in-gear top speed.

What he said.
But the best car in the best trim may be the 2004 Commemorative Edition Z06. Look what Wynveen did with it despite coning on day two of nationals...still in the trophies! And you can fit two sets of golf clubs in the trunk and still have room for a passenger! |

re: 2004 Commemorative Edition Z06, could you just get any 2004 Z06 and upgrade the hood? That's the only difference I think, and even if the hood is $$, it's probably cheaper than trying to buy a whole commemorative edition, I guess... |

The car can get it done. The disadvantage most of us face is in driving ability when compared to Matthew Braun. |

The hoods have been discontinued and are impossible to find now. The Z16 package can be found for the same, if not less than, the regular Z06s. Not everyone wants stripes on their Corvette...can you believe it?
With regard to the Elise just make sure it has the limited slip diff. It was an option that the track guys seem to prefer to live without. It's a little harder to find. |

Avoid the track pack, too soft. |

No need for the Z16 package on the C5. The weight savings are very small. Any '02+ Z06 will be great. |

As for the Elise, you want an LSS model, and you want a LSD at the national level. If you buy a base model, you will need to convert it to the LSS springs in order to make it legal run the larger wheels that come with the LSS package. You will need those to run Hoosiers. Add big front bar, DA shocks, maximize front camber and you're good to. |

just test the 07' STOCK C6 Z06 this weekend...this is the first time I drove a Corvette....it sure did not feel good/easy to drive fast btw I did not test the car on autocross so cant really test out the performance...it does have LOTS of power but it also have power lag(slow reaction/long gear as JRZ said?) in low rpm.....the car seem HUGE....I would think that the car would not handle SoloII course very well except for some National course with lots of big sweeper.....which car would you guys think is easyer to drive fast..C6 or Elise?....... |

Exactly. I'll come back to SS when Matthew is doing something else.
P.S. My C6Z06 is for sale. And argueably the best prepped in the country.
P.P.S. Also selling it super cheap. |

No comparison. The car on the street. VS the car on race rubber VS the car properly setup are 3 different animals. The car is certainly a challenge to drive. It took us a good 6+ months to get the car drievable and consistent. |

What Jason said. You put Matt in any of those car he could win.(Or Pat for that matter )
Elise - you would feel you looks cooler :), but you have the drive the car to the rugget edge short of falling over it. And you cross you finger and hope your half-shaft doesn't give up at launch. :P And sometime course dependent. (long drag launch, lack of transition, or a lot of tight turns)
Z06 - It bigger, good on most courses and setup data are more accessible. And sometime course dependent.(I think less so than the Elise unless the course is very transition intensive)
=> GT3 - Probably best of both worlds, esp if Gary shows up!
And I have a trackpak ...
