0 Replies and 1390 Views Converting to coil-over shock  1390  0 Started by  sgt_g Ok car in question is a 2010 ford fusion awd sport. Factory configuration has a shock mounted to the hub and then at the normal angle to the car chassis. Then the spring is mounted on a control arm inboard of the hub about 3 inches. I have a set of Koni 30 series shocks to go in place of the factory shocks that I plan to mount inverted and I am thinking of getting the kit to convert it to a coil-over shock. But I don't know enough about suspension dynamics to know what that would do to the h...

0 Replies and 1391 Views Corvette C4 coil over and half shaft angle?  1391  0 Started by  midnightmoonlight I'm working on a 1986 c4 suspension transplant into my em car and have a couple questions. The rear half shaft angle I've found different info from setting them parallel to the ground at ride height to setting them angled down towards the ground 1/2' from ujoint to ujoint. So what's ideal for autox/road racing Once I have this I can deal with the toe adjusters and get those level because there about 1degree pointing up and that's with my half shafts pointing down 1/2' towards the ground ...

6 Replies and 2443 Views Custom car class help  2443  6 Started by  midnightmoonlight I used to run a 1972 240z in fp. I vowed to never run again outside a stock class because its hard to be competitive without spending alot of money. Well that was 8 years ago and the 240 days are over. Im building a fun car that will be barely street legal thats ment to have fun not be competitive well........that might change. I know I need to read the rules but was hoping someone can save me some time and get me to the class I will fall into so I can then go from there. So Im building so...

9 Replies and 5957 Views Coil Over Conversion – How Do These Rates Sound?  5957  9 Started by  kpgubert First, the car is a '94 Mustang GT convertible, 3400 lb. Have been running 275/40-17 A6s, but I would like to graduate to 315/35s sometime. I realize it's never really going to be a nationally competitive car, but I still enjoy running regional/divisional events and making it faster (driver mod required too). It's still licensed, but I rarely drive it on the street. Right now I have the springs in their stock (inboard) location. The fronts are 950-1050 lb/in H&Rs and the rears are 415-515 ...

3 Replies and 6296 Views Ideal wheel rate to corner weight ratio  6296  3 Started by  dgoetz I am in the process of ordering custom shocks and springs for my Emod. I have already calculated my frt and rear motion ratio, wheel rates, corner and unsprung weights. From what i have read the ideal autocross wheel rate to corner weight ratio is some where between .8 and 1.2. In other words if i have a front average corner weight of 450lbs the ideal wheel rate to corner weight ratio would put the wheel rate between 360 to 540. The rear average corner weight is 490 or ideal ratio between 392...

6 Replies and 3614 Views Can I still run my 7 clone in D or E Mod?  3614  6 Started by  cboettch Hello all. l'm looking for some guidance (forgive me if this is long winded) I completed a scratch build, street legal, 7 clone last summer and competed (I use that term loosely, as it was my 1st year) in DMod with my local club. (1.6l NA, 1300lbs). I say competed as I am a class of one in Mod. As winters are long (Manitoba), and I enjoy working on the car as much as drivng it, I built a turbo system for it. I didn't do this with any class in mind. It was just a cool learning experiance ( like...

His e mail is bharmerscca.com I vote yes as I am in CM and it gives us a much better deal. Before the ProSolo season officially starts we have had an interesting conversation with a few folks and are possibly thinking of changing the way R1 and R2 is formed in the Tire Rack SCCA ProSolo series. The current model is R1 is all Modified classes and R2 is all Prepared classes. Each running on index to determine class rankings. However, the idea brough...

4 Replies and 4979 Views What class would this be in?  4979  4 Started by  austin296 New guy here with a question: I am in the process of building a car from scratch and I would like to solo race it once finished. I have looked through the rules and it appears that I would be in class Modified A, but having never looked at this before I wanted to make sure. I am also confused about the minimum weight requirements. The car is a tube frame chassis rear engine 2 seater using a 1998 Buick Riviera supercharged v6 engine as a donor. The car will be fully street legal and will be...

0 Replies and 2272 Views Rear Rocker Arm/Cantilever Suspension Design  2272  0 Started by  JimmyNX Hi everyone, I have been toying with the idea of converting my rear suspension in my Datsun 510 to a rocker arm/cantilever style rear suspension. I am looking for anyone to point me in the right direction as far as reading material ( an actually book would be nice ), however I am open to anyone helping me out on this thread as well. The Datsun 510 utilizes a semi rear trailing arm suspension, where it is prone to camber/toe changes over bump travel. There are some interes...
