5 Replies and 1637 Views Soft pax index for SSM  1637  5 Started by  trophystock Sold my MR2 spyder and pickup up a S2000.  I ran my MR2 in stock class but want to have a little more freedom with the Honda so looked at either STR or SSM,  Most of the time it will see action in the local car club in the pax indexed class but wondered the difference in the STR and SSM index.  SSM actually has a softer index then STR, seems like that is backwards.

What is everyone's thoughts relative to the contingency, or lack thereof, for street tires this year  It seems BFG and maybe Hankook may have some skin in the game, but no Dunlop or other competitive tires out there.  Given the problems experienced at Lincoln, this is unfortunate.

3 Replies and 1574 Views Why no Tercel in ST?  1574  3 Started by  karloz (OK, flame suit on for asking about a Tercel)  I noticed this car isn't allowed in any of the ST classes and goes straight  from HS to FSP. Looking at its power to weight ratio and suspension type, it seems like it would be a good fit for STF (pretty similar to the Mazda2). Reason I ask is cuz I was looking for a light weight car that was FWD, easy to work on, cheap to buy and fix, reliable, and that wasn't a honda cuz they get stolen quite a bit here in S.FLA.  But then I see th...

7 Replies and 3139 Views Big 200 TW tires.... 345 or 355 -18 or 19?  3139  7 Started by  cbramey There are so many growing options (finally) for Street tire racing, in SCCA and elsewhere that it is very exciting.   But, one glaring need is a tire with a bit of sidewall and meat on it.    So many good street cars want 345 or 355 series 18 or 19 inch tires, but no one that i can find is making one.  The rival would be perfect, but their 335 is a good front, a bit small for the rear.  Anyone know if any of the companies are working on it   I need to ...

2 Replies and 2030 Views Street Mod Door Cutting Clarification  2030  2 Started by  subydude I'm asking here because I haven't gotten responses from my last few questions I asked of the techscca account. I'm cutting the fenders for tire clearance on a 4 door Subaru and I've gotten to the point on the rear where the door is the limiting factor.  I can go further before getting close to the door seal (which is where I'd stop), but to go further I'll need to clearance a small section of the door itself.  Reading the rules I don't see anything expressly prohibiting cutting o...

4 Replies and 1833 Views Engine swap between trim levels  1833  4 Started by  Adam Hughes Hi Everyone, First let me say I have searched this forum as well as many google searches but I can't seem to find anyone with this exact situation with an answer.   I have a 1991 Honda Prelude that I would like to run in STC.  The '91 came in two trim levels, the 2.0Si and the Si.  The 2.0Si had the B20A5 engine and the Si had the B21A1 engine in it.  My car is an Si, so it originally would have the B21A1, however the previous owner put a B20A5 in it.  I am trying to ...

24 Replies and 5460 Views For STX, 15x9 w/225 tire or 17x8 with 245 tire?   5460  24 Started by  OasisTan
(Topic has multiple pages1 2 )
Which direction would be preferable for the following scenario that I have contemplated over the years......  the choices will be 15x9 on a 225/45/15 or a 17x7.5 or 17x8 with a 245/40/17..... Funny thing is that the different wheel size would require a different model due to brake clearance.  Car options - Mini Cooper S(with JCW Tuning kit, smaller brakes that allow for 15' wheels) vs Mini Cooper JCW(full model that comes with the Big Brakes) - OS GIKEN diff for front grip. &nbs...

9 Replies and 3500 Views Which of ST (new Street as well) tires handles heat the best?  3500  9 Started by  MrAWD I have been looking for what is out there to try for the next year and it looks like size wise 275/35/18 might be the size to fit onto the 8.5' rims. But, my car is quite heavy (last measurement brought 3445 lb on the scale), so heat management is very important for good performance of the selected tire. Typical players that I can see right now point to Hankook R-S3, Dunlop Direzza ZII, BFG Rivals, and some other like Bridgestone R11, Kumho Ecsta XS, whatever Toyo will bring to match requirement...

9 Replies and 2228 Views Why no ST class for SS cars?  2228  9 Started by  djm1968 Subject pretty much sums it up:  why is there no ST class for Super Stock cars  Seems the natural progression should be: Stock =>  ST => ASP.  I'd like to perform a few mods to my '12 Porsche  Cayman, but I do not want to land in ASP and on R-DOTs.  Next years new 'Street' eliminates the R tire need, but my car is camber challenged -- camber plates bump me right up into ASP. Cheers, DJM

9 Replies and 2711 Views Dunlop ZII pressures  2711  9 Started by  Cito I am running 275/35/19 ZII's on a 3500 pound Mustang.  It is in RTR, but I thought I would post here given the street tire knowledge in this section of the forums.  Anyway, I am wondering what sort of pressures people are running in the ZII's if anybody else is running them.  I went with 40f and 38r with what seemed liked mixed results.  Any thoughts would be appreciated.   Thanks, Brent

25 Replies and 5553 Views Cobalts and Boost-Rule Clarification  5553  25 Started by  Evolve
(Topic has multiple pages1 2 )
A local competitor and I have been arguing about his Cobalt SS and boost.  No protest will come about, mainly we're just curious about what would really be legal in an STX tune.  We've found that the stock boost levels in a cobalt learn down to maintain 260hp, so they'll vary from 10 to 22 psi.  The rules state ' changes to standard boost levels, intercoolers, or boost controls are permitted. Boost changes indirectly resulting from allowed modifications are permissible but di...

13 Replies and 8075 Views H Street car definitions for 2014 supplemental class  8075  13 Started by  bluesight HS and GS have been combined into an G Street class for 2014 leaving H Stock drivers in the cold. Regional and local AX clubs may still want to run a separate H Street class to bring in new drivers and help keep current Road Tire HS drivers. This topic offers a place to help define the cars that may be included in H Street regionally and locally. It is based on the 2013 HS class with a significant modification, moving the HS mini out to allow them to compete in GS. New cars can be added as they ...

12 Replies and 5124 Views SM/SSM or higher?  5124  12 Started by  Brian So I have read the rules for SM/SSM and I have often heard 'if it doesn't say you can do it, you can't do it' but I just wanted to clear up some things I've read/heard that didn't exactly come off from the rules. Car is a 1988 Chrysler Conquest TSI (rebadged Mitsubishi Starion) which came with a 2.6L sohc turbo 4 cylinder. I put a 4g63 2.0L dohc turbo 4 cylinder in there, but also put a LS-1 spec T-56 Tremec 6 speed in it which required a new transmission tunnel. I'm mostly worried about this s...
