9 Replies and 5223 Views STS Miata Year/Trim choices...  5223  9 Started by  FLR-Shaun I am planning an STS Miata build for 2014 and I'm now looking for the car. I have gotten mixed answers to some of these questions and I'm hoping I can get a more definitive answer here. I haven't had much luck with the search feature on this site. The most important questions I have boil down to car selection: 1) What year(s) 2) How do trim levels relate to Rules 13.2.A ('comfort and convenience') Years: I think this breaks down to a choice between lighter w/ the VLSD ('90-'93) and slightly he...

7 Replies and 1663 Views Removing Fog Lights and Potential (Perceived or otherwise) Advantage Clarification  1663  7 Started by  Quincy I have a shattered glass lens on one of my fog lights on my E36 M3. Rather than replace the housing I'd like to take advantage of the ST allowance for fog light removal that I interpret as being able to do. This however creates an advantage, be it perceived or quantifiable, in that it allows air to flow into the area where my intake system draws air. Rule 14.2.E covers not allowing fender modification for intakes so that leads me to believe that non-factory openings for intakes are strictly f...

13 Replies and 2546 Views Tire for STU Trans Am  2546  13 Started by  Iwannagofast I'm going to run ST this year in my '02 WS6. Stock tire size is 275/40 17. Last year I used XSs in stock class that were 285s. As you all know, they aren't a great cold or wet tire. I'd like to use something else, but nothing comes in 275 or 285 in 17' sizes. Not sure if it would be good to use a narrower 255 tire. I'm debating the Rival, or the other brands in this size. What do you guys think

4 Replies and 1432 Views 90-91 Civic Front Hubs Discontinued!  1432  4 Started by  oddballrew So in prepping my STC car for this year one of the to do items was to rebuild the front knuckles on the car. So i called up my local Honda Dealership (Saccucci) to place my order and they inform me that the hubs have been discontinued. Well thats not good, so I called up my other local Honda Dealership (Majestic) and attempt again to order the parts, only to once again be told they are discontinued. Currently a local Autox'r says he was able to locate a set for me and im waiting to here that the...

3 Replies and 1256 Views K member switch what class?  1256  3 Started by  Torino1985 Does anyone know what class switching out a K member on a mustang would put me in I have never really seen anywhere in the rules where it mentions that part. Unless it is considered a lower suspension brace since it actually connects the two lower control arms on the front end. But it also holds the engine as well. I assume this would be a SM class or higher but I was hoping to do it for STX/ESP. Thanks in Advance!

(Topic has multiple pages1 2 3 4 )
I recently submitted this request to the STAC/SEB. I have thought through this proposal, and it seems that this benefits a large number of people, and if done correctly, hurts no one. It is not an immediate call to action, but a suggestion moving forward to handle what will (probably) be observed in 2013/14. Not sure if this was submitted in time for today's STAC meeting. Usually I would try to build consensus before submitting something like this, but I don't have the time or connections. ...

17 Replies and 7988 Views Dunlop Star Spec vs RS3 tread width  7988  17 Started by  talon95 Has anyone directly compared tread widths of the Star Spec and RS3's in the same size Right now I'm running the RS3 285/35/18 and am wondering how much (if any) narrower the 275/35/18 Star Spec is I've always seen/heard conjecture that the Dunlop runs really wide, but never seen anything definite. Of course this could change with the Z2, but I'm doing some silly season planning. :-) Thanks, Dave G.

9 Replies and 2567 Views Need clarification on suspension rules  2567  9 Started by  Craig I'm considering on buying coilovers for my Focus but have a couple questions about the set I'm looking at. I'm under the impression from the rule book that you can't use a spherical bearing in the lower eyelet of the rear shock and that the spring can't be moved to run the spring over the shock (stock location of rear spring is beside the shock) Can someone shed some light on this The rules 14.8 SUSPENSION A. (Topic has multiple pages1 2 3 ... 4 )
The latest version of the ST re-org proposal seems to have met with mostly positive feedback as far as STF (the 'ST-new' class) is concerned, so it seems likely that it will go to the BOD in that form and get the rubber-stamp. Assuming all that happens...who's in for STF As a member of the STAC that shepherded this effort, I'd like to see it succeed, so a thread to get interested folks talking seems useful. Heck, I may jump into the fray myself. :) So, if you're thinking of running there, ju...

Yea - like the title says. Just been recommended to the BOD in the Feb Fastrack. What gives and what is up with the all out assult on a ban Are we not allowed to comment on the re-write of the rule proposal Just because 'no one has access'..... really Opinions wanted below - it's been too quiet since the original propsal. I say give us 3.20/gal E-85 over $10 gal high octane.... for those that don't have it 'locally' - I'll open a company and we'll figure shipping......

Hello all, January Fastrack came out, and while my letter (9268) failed miserable with having the SEB think that the Z4M was produced 1998-2002 (even though I mentioned the 06-08 year period). There was another letter which spelled out what I wanted (Z4M to be classed into STR). This is my letter which got mis-interpreted. 9268 Z4 M Roadster Classing Add the 2001-2002 model years to BMW M Roadster and M Coupe listing in STR. It will then read as follows: BMW M Roadster and M Coupe (1998-...

10 Replies and 3040 Views STF: Honda Accord  3040  10 Started by  Randomhero438 I am curious if the Honda Accord will ever make it to the STF class I race a 2004 Accord 3.0L V6 6-speed, and I am forced to race in STC class and I am not competitive. In contrast, I am very competitive in STF. I see that the Mazda 6 and Acura TSX are allowed into the STF class. The Mazda 6 and TSX are both mid-sized cars, even furthermore the TSX and Accord use the same chassis. Given the tire/rim size restrictions, will the Accord be allowed to compete in STF soon Possibly 2003 could quali...

Is there a benefit and if so to what depth shaving is recommended Car is 2800lbs rear drive (Solstice 2.4 N/A) if that ma...

I had a great discussion with Sam Strano the other night about the current tire rules, the slippery slope, etc. We both came away from the discussion wondering if we (autocrossers) could write a better rule from scratch than relying on a self policed UTQG wear rating. Anyone who has veen around the sport for a (long) while remembers how gradually Stock/SP/SM category tire rules got to the point where 'DOT' tires are essentially unstreetable, expensive and short lived. We used to drive to even...

4 Replies and 1331 Views Removed Rear Wiper  1331  4 Started by  jkstill I swapped the rear hatch from my 93 RX7 for a hatch that did not have the stock wing so as to not have 4 holes to plug in the hatch (stock wing replaced with Ciro Design) The problem is, the new hatch doesn't have the rear wiper. The wiper was installed at one time, but was removed, and the hole covered with a rubber plug. I would have used a hatch with no wiper at all, but that is rather hard to find. Do I need to get a rear wiper assembly and install it to remain legal in SSM

Well, I've got an opportunity here to get ahold of an 88 Civic DX sedan (my old car actually) in a trade for one of my CRX's. I run SMF and am already at my class minimum weight with my NA 1.6L (2050lbs) for a 2-seater. The friend who bought my sedan from me is open to trade shells with me, swapping everything from one car to another. With a 4-seater, the weight minimum would fall to 1850lbs. Now, while I don't think I could get it quite that light, I think 1900lbs in race trim is feasible. ...

Are they legal Or do I need to source some EF LCA's I read the rules but I'm a little confused.
