0 Replies and 960 Views Bilstein shock numbers and bump rubber questions  960  0 Started by  RussMcB I have a 1983 Ralt RT-5 and a big box of shocks and bump rubbers. I would greatly appreciate it if anyone can offer advice for me.Question 1 - Can anyone tell me what (if anything) the numbers on my shocks mean I am pretty sure they are Bilstein shocks, but none of them say Bilstein onthem. Here is a typical number stamped on the shock body:27528139162 228 102I think I've determined that '228 102' means they go on the front of my car. I have several others marked '280 72' which seem meant for ...

10 Replies and 1115 Views Choices and Confusion.  1115  10 Started by  pjracing57 Hello to all. After viewing some of the various forums, pertaing to formula racing, a few elements have caught my attention. First and fore most are the discussions in relation to the possibility of two new divisions of formula racing, which might be entering into the US. The Formula X and the Formula Renualt. Within these talks there seems to be a great concern as to how they might affect the current US classes. However it seems as if those talks have ended unanswered. Has there been a...

1 Replies and 879 Views FV  879  1 Started by  RX7RACR Okay, I'm sure I'll receive some heckling for posting this, but here goes. I'm searching for an inexpensive, running FV, less then $1500. Before I get beaten for this, let me explain. I'm currently in the process of building a new EP car which won't be complete until the end of this season. I need something to stay current in and figure I can concentrate on proper line rather than blinding speed. Obviously know that I won't find a front runner, just want something to keep up my license with and ...

I've been to driving schools at Mid-ohio and recently I took Skip Barber's 3 day racing school. I want to get into a Formula Ford or Formula Mazda. I have the talent but I don't know how I can afford to do the arrive-and-drive programs. I see a lot of people that start out with help from their parents but that's not possible for me and I need to get my racing career moving. Does anyone have any suggestio...

2 Replies and 965 Views Battery recommendations?  965  2 Started by  RussMcB Last season I had some difficulties starting my recently acquired supervee (water-cooled 1600 VW, higher compression). My first thought was that the starter should be replaced/rebuilt/improved (Super Starter sounded good, until I found out the price). Then I was told that the problem was more likely battery power. I bought a big Yellow-Top Optima but now I realize that it is just too heavy to use in a formula car. I think it is around 45 lb.The battery-formerly-known-as-Varley looks really n...
