So who's going? Who's on the fence?

Here's the link to the run days:

    Run Days

For those who are going, would there be any interest in renting a tent this year? It's $600 for a 20x30, but they set it up before we'd arrive and take it down after we left.

I'm planning to be there since it's year #44.  I'm not exactly sure what I'm driving, but I do plan to go.  A tent is a great idea (then a trip to the local thrift shop for furniture?).

I plan to be there, but have lost my ride (for now).  I'd like to run Tuesday/Wednesday if anyone has an open seat.

Just a reminder registration opens today at 3:00. Entries are capped this year so there's no benefit to waiting until the last minute.

Edit: Just got word the St. Louis tent is officially happening!

I'm in.  Tent sounds great.  Goal is to repeat my 2014 performance as "Not DFL" in CS.

Where's everyone staying?  Still need to book a hotel room.

Loosecannon is Mark Sawatsky from Canada - the guy with the EM MGBGT.

Rob K - I still stay at the Econo Lodge on Cornhusker Highway when I go to Lincoln, I just booked my room for Nats and it was ~$66/night avg.

It is close and clean, cheap and has decent Wifi.  It is not new and shiny.

No matter what, I almost always book hotels nowadays via ChoiceHotels.com using the SCCA discount code 00802155.  Choice has a lot of brands.

We're up to 17 St. Louis people registered (18 if you count Adam, which I do!) with another 4 or 5 still planning to register. If you haven't heard we are doing a joint paddock with our friends in Central Illinois Region (Rantoul) which should make for a fun week.

I am planning to go this year, if I can get my act together and get registered and a hotel booked. The tent idea sounds like fun. I am in. :)

I am registered and will be there. Right now I am also signed up for the CAM Invitational starting on the weekend. Definitely looking forward to Nationals this year! I might be heading up by myself this year so anyone looking to split a room let me know. I plan on getting there on Sept 2 maybe even on the 1st and leaving on the 8th.

    Cheers,

I think the cap has been raised to 1350 and there will be a waitlist. Looks like 24 from St Louis, maybe the most we've had in recent years? Last time I looked there are 7 from Central Illinois region which puts us at 31 sharing the tent. No problem covering the $550 tent rental fee @ $20 per person. I'll plan on collecting in Lincoln with cash only accepted.

I'll be there and will gladly chip in!  I can't miss my 44th Solo National!  :-)  If you all could have been at the first National in 1973 at Mid-America Raceway in Wentzville, you'd realize how far this sport has really come.  Reaching an entry limit?  Unbelievable!  And the site in Lincoln?  Wow!

I wonder if we'll have a spot for my motorhome?  Looks like I'll be running T/W in FSPL, if all goes as planned.  (That's about Plan B or C.  I hope I don't have to resort to Plan D, but that could happen -- and thanks to the great STL folks who have offered to help if needed.)

Looks like I got in under the wire. Now I just need to find a place to stay.

Is anyone doing any test & tune sessions? This is my first nationals and I'm curious if there's any secret to which session(s) to sign up for. I have a feeling I'll be that lost little puppy trying to find his way around the chaos.

Congrats on coming to your first nationals!

You can do the regular test n' tune where you get four runs for $45, there is no special time that's any better than another.

You can also do the Evo Test n' tune where you get 12 runs for $65. Here's a link, just pick which day you want to do it: http://www.evoschool.com/shop/index...t_list&c=1

I don't think it is a firm number on the runs in the Evo school, but it also includes Evo instructors available if you want them to ride along.

Looks like the Monday Evo Test n' Tune is sold out and CS runs Tuesday/Wednesday. How packed is the time schedule that I could do the TnT after I run Tuesday? Otherwise I don't have too much issue with heading out Saturday evening and doing it on Sunday. Anyone headed out there Saturday?

I was missed, but it seems the issue is somehow my region didn't get saved with my entry. I'll investigate.

Looks like we're in Row 13 for the tent.

Who's bringing what? Anyone got a grill/griddle? What else should everyone else bring.

Right now I'm planning on at least one bike, folding chair, small fabric folding table, and cooler to put some food/drinks in (along with all the other usual autocross accessories)

I'm thinking of picking up a small (possibly disposable) grill to bring. Also, I have a Cornhole (bag) set if someone with trailer space would be willing to haul to/from Lincoln.

Thanks, Chris! I'm so out of my element with this and have tons of questions. Hopefully this can answer some of them. My concern now is how the heck I'm going to get everything there. I have a hitch I'm planning on installing this weekend and was thinking of doing the Harbor Freight trailer thing. Although everything I've seen says they're rated for only 45 mph. Is that just a C.Y.A. for their lawyers? The other option is to drive there on the race tires (RE71), but that concerns me in the case of inclement weather.

I haven't towed one of those small trailers since I had my bitchin camaro back in 2001-2003. But I most definitely didn't go 45mph with it. (It was Jan's trailer). Definitely have a spare though. I had a blowout and then spent a few hours in fear of having another one until I could find a Walmart with another spare available.

As for driving to/from on race tires. I've gone on a few roadtrips this year on very bald tires, but lucked out on weather :D

Try to bring a bike if you can!

I might be able to carry a few tires for you, but you'll have to get them to Wildwood the night of 9/1. Not sure I can swing a bicycle though, Tahoe and Z will be packed.

I may take you up on the tires if I can't get a trailer sorted before then. I have a hitch-mount 1up bike rack with room for two bikes, so I may be able to offer a trade in carrying space.

Just to clarify, I am also a St. Louis Region member (dual membership), and I'm pretty sure the same is true for Andrea and Rick.  It just happens the other is our "Region of Record."

For any of your first timers

    http://www.scca.com/articles/2002326-dont-panic-the-first-timer-s-guide-to-solo-nationals

If you do the Harbor Freight trailer, get the one with the 12" or larger wheels. There are a lot of those rolling around to autocrosses at way over 45 mph every weekend. 😱👍

Rick is a dual member of Chicago & St.  Louis

Susan is a dual member of SIR & St. Louis

Andrea is a duel member of SIR & South Carolinas Region

Entry lists only list a members Region of Record

Good luck to these drivers and the 24 from St. Louis Region - Bring home some GOLD!!!!!

I picked up a trailer from Northern Tool that is more or less the same as the Harbor Freight one. Now the race is on to build the kit, customize it, put the hitch on the Miata, and get the trailer licensed. No problem, right?

Well, shame on them.  I pay my St. Louis Region dues every year.  So I don't get to be listed with the St. Louis Region members?  I was at first.  Now I feel like an outcast.  My little feelings are hurt.  :-(

Speaking of outcast, am I missing something that I didn't get an email saying what my paddock spot was? Or should I try to pick one of the few online that are nowhere near the rest of the crew?

    Bill,
I thought we might be short of space in the St. Louis paddock, so I reserved a spot in row 14, slot 24. It is across the row from the St. Louis paddock. You are welcome to share with me. I am sure you are welcome in the St. Louis paddock as well. It was a matter of timing. If you are at the race tomorrow, I can explain better.

We are going to have a MASSIVE amount of space. We have 26 spaces, that's 50'X325' area for us to use. Also, you definitely aren't required to park in the spot that has your name on it if you're in the STL paddock. Also remember not everyone is there for the full week so that creates even more space. So park with the main group and not worry about it! :-) We did reserve a big tent, we ask that you chip in $20 to use it (payable to Mike Kenney).

You might see a few faces in our paddock that you don't recognize, those are folks from the central Illinois region and they are doing a joint paddock with us. They are good people.

The STL paddock is in row 13, spaces 17 through 30.

    Tom,
Newbie mistake on my part. I didn't realize how big of a space we actually had and I figured it won't hurt to have more in case it was needed. I just wanted to make Bill feel welcome. Thank you for your effort in getting this organized.

So it looks like Dad is coming out from Tucson in the RV. What are the odds I could try to get spots 29 and 30 in 13/A so that we could park the motor home (awning facing north) or both the end spots so that we could have the awning facing west towards the "tent"?

Chris, I replied last night but don't see it.  Did you see it?  I'm going to be in my motorhome as I have the past few years, so we'll have to make room for 2 RV's.  I had already let Tom know.

    Chris,
Sarvies and I are leaving Monday about 5am. Will that work? Does Chris know where you live? We're leaving from SoCo - 270 & 55.

FYI, the tents are no smoking. Please don't smoke under the tent, or upwind from the tent either....

Thank you sir. Second day was a great way to end the week, makes me look forward to 2017.

Wish I could've recorded Lefty's comments during the rain delay to replay when my memory starts to fade.  : )

    Yeah, this!

I got buried in protest just about the time you finished your second run until 9pm Friday., so I couldn't congratulate you and Joe :(

    Thanks.
Sorry to hear about all the protest stuff that happened Friday. I know the protest committee is a "thankless" job because somebody doesn't get what they want no matter which way the decision goes, but I thank you for taking on that and the dedication you and its members bring to the position.

Great job to everyone who made it out there! Also, thanks a million to those who helped me throughout the week and just getting me there in the first place. It really was an eye opening experience to see so many fast people in one location! I only wish I had done better in the changing conditions on Wednesday, but am overall pretty happy with how the event went.

Yes, congrats to everyone who made the trip, especially Matt, Andy, and Sean for trophying. Even those who didn't do as well as they would have liked undoubtedly learned something that will make them better drivers. I learn something new each time I go that hopefully makes me a better driver.

I felt like I drove pretty good, although I was way too tentative in certain areas of the course. Mostly my fault as I hadn't driven the car prior to Nationals. Another lesson learned : )

I liked the East course a lot, the West course not so much. The West course walked ok, but the visuals were difficult to pick up while driving. I only walked the East course twice and felt like I knew it. I walked it once the day I drove it, but didn't feel that was even necessary.

A big thank you to all the folks who helped make "camp STL" a reality. The tent and good company was a welcome respite from the sun, rain, and heat.
