Schedule has not allowed recording a run in competition until July 22. I am using a DroidX, a $15 Bluetooth OBD2 reader and QStarz 10hz GPS Bluetooth. Really liking it. 7-22-12 Fastest fender time and 4th PAX, .65 back from Craig Wilcox (1st PAX). Not braking late helps!!

(The clunking is my OEM seatbelt clattering about. I was wearing a two point lap belt.)

If you had been looking at and saw no video, I was mucking about and finally got it posted and working. Not easy on this platform!!

One thing Solostorm does well is easy export of overlaid video. But I really like the way it allows two runs to be compared on the phone; very useful stuff. My first few attempts at using the beta ended up uncovering a number of bugs/issues with little useful data, but my codriver and I used it successfully last weekend and we got some really good feedback from it.

Which version are you using? I am on 4.3.5. At 480P it overlays a 70 test in 7 minutes with 10hz GPS and 2 channels of OBD2. Other good stuff as well. Gave my wife the DroidX and stepped up to a Galaxy S3. SUPER slick.

Wipers are a cool touch. On a more serious note, I have found that if the cradle is sort of tensioned against the dashboard with a folded up tissue under it, it's completely stable. The picture is the DroidX, but the S3 is set the same way.

I've been waiting a couple of years for this. I'd been wondering why you couldn't do video and track data on a smartphone. My Galaxy S3 handles this really well and I'm looking forward to useful data in Peru.

4.3.5? I though the latest was 4.2. Did you get a pre-release beta?

Oh bother. I was just on Petrel and saw you do......As Emily Litella (Gilda Radner) would say "Never Mind"

Anyone else have "error parsing the package" messages with some of the updates?

When I used my DroidX I was locked at 3G and it's weak at my house. Grabbing the attachment was hopelessly slow on 3G and isn't great on 4G on my Galaxy. Using wifi at the house solved that.

If you are a beta, did you receive your 4.2 and unlock code via your Gmail account? If so, have you checked to see if you have any updates? Not sure if Mike was sending general releases or not. But there have been a bunch of them. At this point he seems to have the app fairly well dialed in.

For anyone thinking about this app, there is a list of enhancements that may emerge over the off season. Nothing for iPhones yet (completely different operating system and thus coding would have to start from scratch). Not sure if the following is uniformly true, but moving to a dual core processor phone makes a big difference in video/data overlay. Also, Mike has streamlined the process thus speeding the process. Phone setting help as well. I liked the program on my 1ghz single processor DroidX, but on my 1.5 ghz dual core Galaxy S3 I love the app.

Now, I have to find a way to combine (side by side on a computer screen) SoloStorm exported video/data and video from my Contour GPS so I can see video/data from inside the car and the Contour (wider angle) from elsewhere on the car.

    Oh, and DRIVER BETTER.

Just read on the SoloStorm forum that 4.3.5 will be released to all Betas tonight. Looks like it may be the final release before going public.

To get the quickest overlay, turn off any power savings features in the phone to allow the processor to run WFO, set video to 480P, and set the fast/quality slide bar to fast.

I got one of the pre-release betas via email before. When the official beta came out I figured why download it again. As I went along I wanted to try a uninstall and clean install to see if it helped at all. It looked like there were some changes made between the emailed version and the released version. So you may want to install the released version just in case. Unless of course Mike can tell you otherwise.

If you received any beta attachments, they would be updated (newer) versions. I have loaded and each as they arrived, but never deleted any of the attachments.

What I was trying to say is that unless Mike hasn't tweaked anything since he sent you the 4.3.5, the official release may have some tweaks that yours doesn't. I got 4.2 before the official release and it looked to me as if there were some minor changes to what was mailed and waht was the official release.

Could it be all in my mind? Sure thing !!

As a Thank You, the last Beta version is extended by a year, and a significant incentive has been made to testers who purchase within the next 2 weeks.

    Thanks guys!!!

Sounds stupid, but explain how you triggered the recording? Did you tape the screen and them jump in the car? I have my phone mounted on the dash.

Did you calibrate your video and accelerometers?
