I currently drive my street car at open track weekends and would like to move to a spec type series for next year.

Does anyone know a tentative schedule for the new spec series. I assume it would run in its own class or combined with another until there were enough of them. So should I just look at the individual regions and see what their season schedule is like?

Thanks,
Matt

If you're talking about the new SCCA spec sports racer, it won't have it's own class next year unless you run the Pro series. That's a huge jump from track events in a street car. Locally it will probably run as a CSR, where theoretically it would not be competitive, but I've seen very few CSR racers so you'd probably do fine. Info on the car is at http://www.scca-enterprises.com/formula_sportsracer.html

You might want to consider renting a ride in a spec racer ford for a couple events and see how you like it. For sure it would be a good idea to rent a ride to get your competition license.

The east coast pro series for the formula car starts with a double event at VIR April 26-27. Next is a double at Beaver Run the next weekend. Lime Rock and Mosport are also tentatively on the calendar. Not sure what else. My guess is the sports racer will have the same schedule if there is enough interest.

This new spec formula car looks sick. It will run FA in 03 and should have it's own class for 04. I can't wait to test drive one.

The spec formula car, now called "Formula SCCA", has it's own Pro series. The schedule and more info can be found at http://www.sccapro.com/formulascca/ .

The car should be a blast. About the same speed as a Formula Continental, and much cheaper to maintain & repair.
