    If a battery is mounted securely to the vehicle, in the rear, is it still required to be enclosed by a box?

    This might be a silly question, but... Why do people ask questions like this on Internet discussion groups rather than looking up the answer themselves, thus getting a much more authoritative answer? As the 2003 Detroit Region SM Champ, I'm guessing you do own a rulebook...

    See 3.3.3.B.15, page 52-53 in the 2004 book. (Short answer: yes for wet-cell, no for AGM.)
