Borders Doubles at Sebring
Despite Tropical Storm Barry bearing down on South Florida, most of the racers who pre-entered the Central Florida Region Double SARRC/V8 StockCar points race showed up to do battle.
One of the those that braved the elements was Bob Borders, the pilot of the number 24 C6 V8 GT-1 Corvette. Borders, who has been road racing for more than thirty years in IMSA, Grand Am and SCCA, has many wins to his credit including a treasured IMSA GT win at Watkins Glen.
The Sixty year old Borders showed he still has the fire in the belly, and isn't ready to throw in the towel yet, taking the V8 GT-1 wins on Saturday and Sunday. Bob got a break early on Saturday when Dave Machavern, in his fast Tommy Riggins Corvette, had electrical problems early, and later when Ray Webb, who had closed to his bumper with a couple to go in his Blue Lagoon Spas Olds Cutlass, lost all but fourth gear and faded to third.
Sunday, Guy "On the Gas" Ratcliff led Borders only to have his rapid SB2 powered Camaro suffer electrical system maladies near the end.
