We approaching the end of the club racing season in the Rocky Mountain Division, with racing in September and October. This weekend 2 Team Pan Am Club racers will make their way to Topeka, Kansas for a National Event entitled " Last Chance". This will be the last major National race event before the National Championships. Both Jose Gerardo and Hector Maldonado will attend this weekends event in Topeka. Jose is getting geared up for the SCCA runoffs and will represent the Pan Am Region, to try to secure a podium finish. Last year Jose Gerardo finished 5th in the nation in the Class FC open wheel formula car class. Hector Maldonando has now completed his conversion to FB or F1000. He ripped out the old 2000cc Pinto engine and replaced it with a whole new rear chassis and 1000CC Suzuki GSXR superbike motorcycle engine. I was at his test day at Arroyo Seco last week and the car ran good and looked good. Hector has put in over 200 hours of time completing the conversion. That's a lot of time and hard work. His new engine cover arived this week so he and Jose will be off to Topeka. Good luck Team Pan Am formula racers.
The Rocky Mountain Division SCCA has now canceled the Sept 13th and 14th double regional due to track problems at La Junta. At the June event the cars broke up the track in several turns......so La Junta city personnel have been slow in making repairs and the track is NOT safe to race on. The RMD SCCA tried to re-schedule the event at Pikes Peak Interantional Raceay which is now going to re-open, but the facility is not quite ready for car racing. This is the third regional race that was canceled this year. The first 2 canceled events was due to poor car counts, the last race slated for September 13th and 14th, was due to lack of volunteers and time to put the race together.
Team Pan Am Club Racer Richard Dziak has now secured the Rocky Mountain SCCA Division Regional Championship in Class FB. Richard won the Arizona Regional Saguaro Championship earlier this year and is the 1st Pan Am Region Club Racer to win 2 Regional Championships in one year. Richard spent allot of time on the tracks both in Arizona and Colorado to win the 2 Regioanl Championships in Class FB or Formula F1000 with his new Phoenix F1K.07 formula race car. He will now work on preparing a race schedule for the upcoming 2008-2009 Arizona Region season.
Jose Gerardo also captured a Championship in the Rocky Mountain Division. Jose captured his 1st RMD National Championship. Jose won the Class FC or Formula F2000 class. Team Pan Am Club racers made great strides this year. It was a fantastic season and the Pan Am region was represented very well. Solo racer John Basler completed his driving schoool and his 1st race with a 1st place finish in La Junta, Colorado in June. John continues getting seat time and testing his car at ArroyoSeco Raceway. Our other Team Pan Am Club racer Stan Czacki will also attend the SCCA National Runoff's. I will keep everyone up to date on upcoming news.
Stay tuned........more to follow.
