Stan Czacki took the #00 Camaro to a third place at the USA's oldest road racing facility......Willow Springs in California's Mojave Desert. Willow has been in continuous operation since 1953 and was the location for the recent SPEED tv show Setup. The track is every bit as challenging as MidOhio and a blast to drive with it's up and down hills and combination of tight and sweeper corners, some blind.....the Camaro's speed was pegged at 125mph (as high as the speedo goes) halfway down the front and back straights. With this finish Stan maintains (barely) his points lead in Southern Pacific Div. SSB class. The winner was Lee Niffenegger, current SSB National Champ with Richard Crites finishing 2nd and Stan 10 seconds behind.
In the five races held for the 2009 SoPac championship so far there have been four winners; Stan twice, and Lee N., Richard Crites, and Tim Brecht each once. Two races remain in Calif. at Buttonwillow on April 4th and 5th. The big question is can Stan get a fresher motor and better tires by then as that is what it will take to challenge the Hondas of Niffenger and Crites and the supercharged Mini of Brecht? After that it's who can travel and score in the three out of Division races that can be counted toward one's points. Looks like a long but fun racing year, if we don't go broke first!
