Factory five said a couple of weeks ago they don't even have a brochure for the 818 yet.

I pulled the head Tuesday and took it to my favorite machinist. He looked it over and thinks we are pumping oil into the exhaust valve either from a fault in the valves or valve seals or guides or from a broken or faulty oil ring. He will take the valves out and search for a problem there. If nothing is found it will be pull the motor time to take it down. ON The plus side is that the cylinder walls look very pristine with virtually no ring ridge and no gouges or scratches. Hopefully it will be a valve issue so I can be back in action sooner. We'll measure the bore for wear before buttoning it back up.

Well, he found nothing in the valves. I'm gonna go ahead and reinstall the head and run it. There is a chance I was overfilling the oil causing it to take oil around the valve guides. I am now clear on how to check oil level so hopefully it will run without smoking. I drilled some holes in the rear cover to let out heat too.

So with any luck tomorrow I will get the oil hoses changed and the head installed and make it to the casino on Sunday to run then the following week at the speedrome. If rings are indicated I will do that this winter. I measured the wear in the bores and they range from a low of 1.3 thousanths to 2.8 thousanths....insignificant I believe.

Discovered the source of my leak.....bottom of my oil reservoir tank is loose from its base so probably tore a little hole at the attachment point. It'll have to come out to be welded back. I'll reinstall it on a rubber gasket.

I got all the hoses hooked up with no kinks. I also:
Welded the bottom of the reservour tank and had a new base plate manufactured for it, and cleaned the connection between the brass filler cap fitting and the aluminum coolant collection tank and re sealed it with JB weld.

I have the head sitting on the block now and will hook up all the stuff for that.

It looks promising for running on Sunday....tomorrow.

Got stymied last weekend with no spark. Found it was a bad coil, replaced it with a spare Bosch Blue coil I had...beautiful looking thing and found it was bad also. Will install a new Accel coil today and hopefully be ready to run on sunday!

Ran on the 20th at South Bend. Had a problem with the throttle sticking on my new brake line. Bent it out of the way and finished my other five runs. Installed a new bushing in the accel pedal today. Am planning to run at Gary tomorrow. it'll be a leasurely day with first car off at noon in deference to the late date.

Shoulder is healing nicely. I can do many things without pain now, including type with both hands! I go back to the surgeon on Friday so will then start actual rehab. The Reynard stares me in the face every time I go through the garage and asks when I am going to give it some love. Can't do much yet which requires strength in both arms.

The shoulder is pretty good now but I am restricted from heavy lifting. I have been running the car a bit. Yesterday at the speedrome I got in two runs before realizing my ballistic battery was dying. So I loaded up rather than risk dying on course. The car is handling and running good otherwise....

What size Ballistic? My 16 cell has has handled over 16 runs and dozens of starts at a TnT.  I charge with a normal charger between events.

I dunno how many cells. It is cube shaped and cost 230 or so at Pegasus. I bought the next size bigger this time. I am told that using a regular charger on them will overcharge it if left unattended too long.

The Reynard is apparently sold. A deposit check is on its way and delivery is being arranged. I put a deposit today on a 99 Miata sport (including doors and AC).
