Current rumor is that the same group may be interested in Gateway as well. No information as to SCCA and the MIR road course yet. Fingers crossed X.........

Mazda Mike, the Mid-South Region SCCA had a meeting with the track management this afternoon at 2pm. I was unable to attend but we will have a race committee meeting later this week to discuss the outcome of the fact finding meeting.

    Stay tuned,

Certainly the "current" scenario at GIR is unworkable. But it is easy to imagine a successful Gateway if all could be renegociated. I look forward to seeing what happens in Memphis........

Bret Kepner has posted that the most revenue Gateway ever received on non-NASCAR events was less than $800,000 per year. With a $1.4 million per year land lease payment and $2.55 million property taxes per year on improvements, it's going to take a lot of renegotiations. And then there are the costs of operating the place.

Memphis was easy. No rent and the property taxes are about $250,000.

I heard Gateway is probably heading for auction like Memphis. I don't care what it takes, as long as we get Gateway back open!! :)

Lynn I guess you won't be among the interested investors. lol But, it's not over until the pavement's gone! It would seem to be in everyones interest to try to reopen GIR though, imho. How much money will the government and property owners get if it doesn't?? I, like Karen and others, are keeping the faith! ;)

I would be surprised if Madison County renegotiates the taxes. It is not in their best interest. If they do that, every business in the county will want lower taxes. I'd like to see the track reopen, too, but I think it is very unlikely.

Mike, we are sending out a survey to the MidWest division drivers and volunteers. After that, the track will have to be inspected before we can set any dates.

Sounds good Phil; I'm sure you will keep us up to date. ;) It has also been "rumored" (only) that the road course will get some changes/attention at some point? And things may be looking up here as well !!

Mike, we have been told by the management that, depending upon participation, the road course will be altered. Their plan is to make the road course and the drag strip separate tracks.
