I've searched and searched but not been able to find a solid answer.

You can run whatever ECM you want but are not allowed to remove emissions connectors from the harness. Does this mean you MUST use the stock harness if you have an aftermarket ECM?

Can you remove the OEM harness and rewire with the new ECM?

    Cheers,

    Zach

You could build a new harness with new connectors if you desire, but nothing in the rules allows you to remove the old harness, so you would have to keep it along with the new one. Retarded? Seemingly so, but it is also not hard to imagine how crazy it would be come if people were allowed to remove factory harnesses...what lengths people would go to (does the dome light need to be wired up or is that comfort and convenience? what about the a/c and/or the horn button? radio? headlights? gauge cluster wiring?).

Hmm. I guess that means re-running new wires for the stuff I need and leaving the old for the ones I don't.
It'll drive the OCD crazy but ah well. :-\

Yep, you would have to overlay a new harness over the existing OEM harness.....or wire things up _through_ the stock harness :)

Make an adapter harness to plug your standalone into the oem harness. It takes care of everything you need, unless you've gotta reconfigure the triggers outside the oem setup.

bringing this back from the dead....

but, (big but of course) relocating the factory harness and balling it up out of the way without actually removing it sounds like a legal compromise.

remove i believe means remove from the car, not from the motor itself.

    am i wrong?

Sadly, not legal as the rules do not allow you to relocate stock components required to be kept to conform to the rules.

Think how crazy that could get if someone  relocated all moveable stock components to centralize mass.
