I was just browsing through the South Bend region site and noticed that they are going to have a track day at Gingerman Raceway that is only open to South Bend Region members on Monday June 27th from 5:30pm to 9:30pm for the SUPER low price of only $25 per driver! Yes, a track day for the price of an autocross!

I was thinking that if I can get the tires I want by then (on back order, and tirerack doesn't know of a shipping date), I'll go.

If not, then I might go anyways just to watch.

I'm just wondering if any other SBR members were planning on going?

Well, since the track day got cancelled due to a possibility of strong thunderstorms and hail, they rescheduled it to August 1st, which is also a Monday.

Any SBR members planning on going?

I'm not a SBR member yet but I would like to go. Do you know if they are going to have instructors?

    There should be instructors/roadracers there.

This is the email that was sent to me.

"Just a reminder that we will meeting at GingerMan Raceway for an evening track night. Meet in the pavilion(at the end of the entrance drive on the left towards the gas pumps) at 5:15 where we will check in, check helmets and have a short drivers meeting. Several road racers will be on hand for instruction and we may even do a lead-follow to help you find the line if this is your first time at GingerMan. We have the track until 9;30, so you'll get plenty of track time.

    A few notes:

    1) Bring a check(or cash) for $25 made out to SBR, SCCA.

    2) Bring a helmet rated MA/SA 2000 or newer

    3) Your car must have at least 3 point seat belts

    4) Convertibles must have a roll hoop(or a hardtop).

    5) You may want to pump your tires up a few xtra psi. Bring a tire gage. "

So it looks like there will be instructors there.
Though I'm not sure if the s2000 can run, since I'm not sure what their definition of a "roll hoop" is...

Well, I know that stock S2000s run at Gingerman all the time. The question is will SBR allow it?

They said it's up to Gingerman, since it will likely be run as a normal test and tune night.
    so it should be good.

    Steve,
Where did you get the information regarding this event?
I couldn't find it on the SBR website?

but it's also in their monthly newsletter.

I'd probably tell their RE if you're going

Well, according to TireRack's website, the tires that I ordered about a month or more ago won't be in until August 10th.

I should still be there to let a co-driver in my car.

Or if he can get a car that can go on the track (his doesn't meet roll requirements), I'll be driving, since I think I have enough tire to last about a session or two, hopefully.

Well, I found that I need to replace the clutch master cylinder (AGAIN!) on my car yesterday at a miata club event, and the part won't be in till 11:00 tomorrow.

I'm gonna try my best to make it in the white car, but if I can't, then I'll be in the silver car if I can figure how to get the hard top secure.

It's good to have back-up cars Steve.

Anyway, fluids are changed and I'm ready to go!

A blast! It is weird, because I felt more comfortable doing this track day than doing a typical autocross. And this is my first time on the track. Perhaps, it is because I had time to think and also had the option to pick a line. There were a few laps where I thought I hit the pretty apexes well. However, the big learning curve for me was learning to trust my brakes. And by my third session I was braking much later after I got used to the speed. Another thing I've noticed (and this may sound a little weird) is toward the end of last 20 minute session I felt myself getting into a grove to the point where I felt like I was in some kind of trance. If that happens to me in a 20 minute session, I wonder what happens to endurance racers. Anyway, I can see how this can be addicting.

    Had a great time!
Had a fun session with an Integra. he would pull on me in the straights, and I would catch up on the turns.
Until I went two off and decided to give him a little room.
I was feeling the same after the 20 minute session.
After a while it was actually starting to get a little boring, since I knew exactly where to brake, turn in, and add hamsters. After reviewing my fourth session video, my times were pretty consistent in the mid to low 1:43's with a best of 1:43.2 (old track)

I'll try to get some video and a couple pic's up soon.

No. I don't have one of those fancy cameras yet.
Steve took some shots of me zooming by however.
