After last winters fun time in northwestern Conneticut for the season awards, I think some discussion on alternatives is welcome and deserved. Hopefully some on the F&C and Club Racing side will chime with their ideas as well.

I haven't heard of any mention of Skippy's gift from last winter.

I'll start. We use the Coliseum all summer, there are events IN the Coliseum as well :) There's Disney on Ice, Cirque de Soliel, anf some wacky sport. The Lingerie Football League folded 2 seasons ago:( But there is the Islanders. Are(?) the Islanders. And 2 restaurants inside. Sunday, February 12th is a 3pm game. It's one of the few this season. So, lunch, awards, and then an activity. I can check with our contact person w/ SMG and see what can be done.

    Other options?

Meh. I wouldn't pay $5.00 for tickets to see Islanders and Florida Panthers play...even for seats actually *on* the Islanders bench. :-) Do they still have an arena football team?????

The region lost many thousands of dollars at each of the GPNY banquets. I don't know about you, but I'd rather see that kind of money go into a timing/scoring penthouse with air conditioning and a rainproof roof than another poorly-attended awards banquet! With near zero participation from the racing side of the house anyway, this is why Jon is looking for suggestions about where to hold a Solo-only banquet that isn't going to break the region's bank account again.....

    *sigh*

Every year. I'm so tired of the whole "The Solo Side" vs the "Racing Side" discussion when it comes to where, when we have an "AWARDS" ceremony/dinner/party. Whereas the sentiments are mostly true...it pains me that we are a TOTAL club and have basically seggregated the different divisions. All the OTHER regions manage to encompass all of their membership...why not NYR? Hello? "Leadership"? Anyone listening?

    Rant over.

I was liking Jon's idea about the Coliseum...up to the point about doing it during the game. Those watering holes get exaggerated $$$ during those events (that's what they are there for) so not so wild about that. Artie is correct about the region losing it's shorts at the go-karts and they haven't been super happy to deal with us the last couple of times...plus - been there, done that. Time for something else. Maybe the Coliseum when there is nothing going on? Maybe go bigger than life: The Sidecar at P.J. Orouke's? Sardi's? That Italian place across from the Bellmore RR station...what is it? Lamborghini's or something? How about a catered Slot Car Party? There are tons of ideas. Lets hear some of them.

Thanks to all of the 'core' workers and the numorous volunteers that made the NYR Solo season so successful and fun this season. Looking forward to seeing you at events over the 'off' seaon.

I enjoyed our low key diner mini banquet last year. The talking and B.S is enough to keep me happy I am sure we can pick a nice bar and grill and just hang out. No need for an activity that cost money. Just an Idea

This is bad but I agree with Joe O. If we can keep it simple, have time for people to hang out, good food some drinks. I think most would be happy and would attend. How about bowling? If we need some type of activity, a little competition, a lot of socializing, those places usually have party rooms. Are there any Alley's left?

I'll go to any as long as it's not too far. Also, why do we always do the awards 4-5 months after seasons end? Too long of a wait.

If you're driving HS, GS, ES, or STS, you can throw the ball from three parking spaces beyond the foul line..... :-)

Anybody in stock or street prepared should be able to wear any sneakers they want, street tire competitors needs to wear DOT-approved bowling alley shoes
