I am looking for a mechanic shop that is capable for basic machine work, advanced fabrication, and is familiar with race car prep work. I need someone reliable. Lately, every mechanic I find is always sub-par and careless. Please post your recommendation / experience.

Thanks. Emailed Steve just now. Anywhere else on the NNJR SCCA radar?

I used the following shops when I lived on Long Island and was extremely happy with their works:

Vinny Ten Racing at 100 Dale Street, West Babylon, NY 11704

    631-414-7590 vinny@vinnytenracing.com

TKX Performance at 130 Railroad Street, Huntington Station, NY 11746

    631-424-3640 www.tkxperformance.com

Vinny has a dyno in his shop and is a great tuner. He is an accomplished drag racer and fully understands racer's needs (like I need it done by tomorrow or I will miss my race!) and accommodates them. He is a good engine builder, too.

Taso (the owner of TKX) is a great mechanic and fabricator. His shop can fabricate exhaust systems, too (TIG welding). He is also equipped to perform alignment and corner weighing.

If you decide to contact them, tell them Sho sent you.

When all else fails give the guys at Phenoix Performance a call and if they won't do it I'm sure they could recommend someone they trust. Not sure I'd use them as a regular mechanic, but for fabrication and set up they'd be pretty good. They may be a little too far away for you though.

If you had a Porsche I'd know exactly where to send you. Precision Motorsports Racing in Califon, NJ. In fact if you give John a call there and tell them what you're looking for I'm sure he'd have a good suggestion or two. Tell him a corvette guy named Scott suggested you call them...908-832-6572.

    Good luck.

Little late here, but there is Driving Impressions in Dover, no machine shop though. KrugSpeed in Mamoronack is top notch, has a dyno in house and a machine shop next door.
