Putting a finer point on it, I understand from Appendix C that you can replace the factory roll hoops with a proper broomstick-compliant rollbar like Hard Dog double diagonal roll bar. My main question is whether you have to artfully carve up the factory roll hoop covers (plastic) and the "parcel tray" rearward of the factory hoops/plastic.
Case could be made that we add up the weights of the factory hoops/fasteners + factory plastic hoop covers + tray, and compare that figure against the weight of the Hard Dog double diagonal roll bar/fasteners. My bet is the Hard Dog outweighs the factory parts/covers removed. And to be clear, I'd prefer to not have to carve up the factory plastic in case I someday remove the Hard Dog bar and re-install the factory roll hoops / plastic covers / tray. I'd wind up putting dynamat or similar carpet covering over the bare trunk surfaces. Hope this all makes sense.
My car's so far above min weight (it's tagged, has otherwise full interior, stock seats, ice-cold AC, etc) and tows its own tires to the events that in theory this should all be a non-issue. I just want to do all I can to color within the lines for both SSM and for upcoming track day / DE events (and also improve the safety of the car).
Thanks,
