For the last year South Jersey Region has been running Solo 2’s at the decommissioned Bader Field airport in Atlantic City and some folks have asked “what’s it like?”. Well, first off it is not a runway it’s the whole friggen airport! Two - two thousand feet runways, a thousand foot long apron and all the taxiways – lots of room! I don’t think we have used more than a quarter of the space available for any single event. Of course we have run into the some of the same problems that NNJR (big courses take a lot longer to setup) and Philly (you don’t want workers running a hundred yards to reset cones) have; but, given these issues vs. running at Atco is a no AX brainer.
(It a little late in the year for it but the site is within half a mile of the boardwalk & beach which makes for a nice post event cool-off.)
Here are some YouTube links to some of SJR’s recent courses…
The first is a Ciotti/Downey creation that really started to include the apron into the courses http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y0bt...ture=g-upl
Next , (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RwSd...ture=g-upl) was based on a low preregistration numbers and a course that staid mainly on the apron (includes some primitive efforts to include some logger data – TrackMaster for ANDROID).
And then the course we did for Kerbeck Corvette’s Toys for Tot’s event – there a lot more pointer cones then usual to help the Corvette drivers … didn’t help ;-) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5xlx...ture=g-upl
There are still two events in 2012 – Oct 21 (forecast is 61 and sunny) and Nov 11 (forecast - ?). Don’t have to pay to preregister & AutoX4u will get you headed in the right direction.
Hope to see you there,
