Solo Board Meeting and Annual Awards, 2/10/2013
In attendance: J. Cohen (chairman), A Cruz (Chief of Novice Emeritus), A Emerson (former Chair), J Emerson, K Denk, GJ Dixon, J Morrison, J Fischer, J Flynn, S Garcia, G Jaroncyk, B Jesia (Chief of Equipment), A Ovissi.
Season Trophies were presented to those in attendance. James Flynn was presented with Volunteer of the Year for his herculean efforts in getting several of our cars back into shape last year so they can be moved off site to be driven another day. Jeff Hurst was announced as Driver of the Year.
The Coliseum sent an email to the Chair on the previous Friday stating that dates for the season will be available in the next few weeks.
The meeting was then thrown for open discussion with the intention of bringing issues to vote at the Solo Season Kickoff Meeting, expected to be in March.
Raising the event entry fee and increasing the discount for FastLane CheckIn to try to reduce the number of walk up registrants. An entry fee of $45 for going to the registration tent and keep FastLane at $35.
A Civic day similar to Subaru and Ft86club day was brought up. Any car club is welcome to organize and come down. If we know in advance we can structure their day regarding work assignments.
A request for an additional modifier was made for the Road Tire Stock classes so their time could be more accurately be reflected in the Final PAX results versus the rest the day’s entrants. A multiplier ranging from 0.96 – 0.98 was discussed. Benefits and negatives were discussed.
Classing structure was brought up about an ongoing email conversation. Various input ranging from keeping the current structure to removing all grouped classes and run individual SCCA classes across the board. Trophies were discussed within the class structure discussion. Input on trophies ranged from ditch trophies based on results and give dash plaques to only give out trophies to the top 3 places regardless of class depth. These topics comprised the bulk of the meeting before ending the meeting to continue on the afternoon’s activities.
The lack of time did not allow several topics to discuss issues that need to be resolved before the start of the season
Work and Driving heats- How do we run our event? I rolled the dice too soon with the 6 heat format. Driver counts did not jump as high as I expected. Do we go back to 4 heats? Should we be more concerned about worker shifts, and schedule those as shorter heats? Should we do something more drastic, go to an AM & PM event structure, where the first heat runs count and the afternoon are essentially fun runs?
Do we want to add in fee discounts? Veteran/Military; Senior Citizen; First Gear; First Responder(Police, Fire, etc)
Final look of 2013 event trophies?
TriState Champhionship – It is the NY Council’s year to host. A decision to wait to July 4th to make a decision on what club/site/date will be done shortly after.
Alan Cruz has asked to host another Solo Board meeting. He thinks we are ripe for babysitting abilities.
The web forum advertisement that I do every year is in need of pictures for this year.
Jeff Hurst has offered to host an evening meeting geared towards car setup.
Do we need to go back to 18” cones?
