    I've got a stock 240SX, and I've got a few questions.

I'm completely new to AutoX, is it even worth it to begin upgrading parts and going up in classes before gaining experience? Or should I stick to keeping the car as close to GS as possible?

That really depends on you... My general advice is leave your car alone until you are sure you enjoy the sport. At the same time talk with your locals about which classes are the most fun. Then look at your budget and see how much you want to spend

    Stock: G- Stock

Street Touring: STS (if running stock open diff)

STX (if running aftermarket diff clutch pack..etc)

    Street Prepared: D Street Prepared

    Prepared Class: E Prepared

    Street Modified

    Modified: E Modified

Leaving the car alone and resisting modification is the best advice if you're new. Tighten the nut behind the wheel first!

a stock 240sx?  I may have to see that for myself, I didn't think they existed anymore.

It's STC by the way.  No class hopping in ST so stock VLSD or nothing.

I agree with Motoring, try it first and get used to the events and the classes and then build the car to the class you want to run in.  That being said, the car seems to get the most play in SM.  But be careful on that decision, they don't call it $M for nothing.  If I had to start from a clean slate I would probably try to stay in ST, though I enjoy the car with a lightweight flywheel and HLSD too much to go back.
