I was just reading the June Fastrack. I'm not an English major, but to me this reads like the drivers volume level is factored in when taking sound level readings:

“If a driver in a vehicle exceeds 100 dBA, the driver will be allowed an attempt to reduce the sound level of the vehicle before his/her next scheduled run that day"

The current wording of Appendix 1 seemed OK to me in this regard.

    Howdy,

The point of this change was to make it clear that its the combination of driver and car, not just car alone.

I.e. with a 2 driver car, if the 1st driver blows sound, that driver's sound stuff is independent of the 2nd driver. How this situation should be handled was unclear before.

I was working sound at the tour this weekend, different drivers definitely gave different readings. It could be anything up to 5db.

    Mark,

When described that way, it makes more sense. I had visions of Will Ferrell yelling "I CAN'T CONTROL THE VOLUME OF MY VOICE" as he drives by sound control!

    Thanks,

    Joe
