I'm looking to but a new car early next year and have narrowed down to three.

The 2015 WRX, 2015 GTI (with performance pack), or the FRS or BRZ.

A little background, I have driven/raced a neon, bmw and Fmod in the past 8 years.

Will probably stay in street for next couple of years before moving to touring.

I'm not looking for any particular class, just a competitive car.

    Thanks.

Competitive but not necessarily winning? Many are competitive in 10+ year old cars.
Buy last year's winning National car used and save a bunch. Assuming you like the car so you won't mind spending money on it?

Car will also be used to drive to and from work 10 - 20 miles a day.

Current car has 200,000 and is 11 years old, looking buy to new.

I would choose the WRX if you just prep for street. 4 seats and decent MPG.

If you want a car that can be competitive in both Street and Street Touring then you probably want the FRS or BRZ. It's a competitive car in CS (and will be more competitive next year with the 370Z gone) and a GREAT STX car. The WRX, while a good DS car, is a bit outgunned in STU and the 2015 GTI is still an unknown unknown - it's not clear how good it will be and how competitively it will be classed.

I had not thought of the Focus ST or the Fiesta ST, but may add them into the mix.

I'll have several to start test driving after the first of the year.

I may have eliminated the twins because I think I going to stick with a 4 door, just for practicality.

I don't know how it would fare against a 1LE, but if your dealer has any 2014 mustang gt's left you can probably get it cheaper than the wrx.
