Question, while working we noticed you were on the rev limiter a lot after the 2nd cross over, is there no gain shifting to 3rd in a miata?

I've never driven one, nor am I familiar with the gearing.

Sometimes my car doesn't like to go into 3rd unless it's in a straight line so I didn't want to chance it on my last run. If it would have worked correctly I would have picked a little more time.

that's a good reason to stay in 2nd. better to maintain speed then slow down due to not engaging 3rd correctly.
