The Road Course at Gateway is probably at it's busiest all year right now.

This Friday is the next Practice Day ahead of the SCCA "Majors" Club Race Weekend. With entries nearing 90 we will have quite a field of drivers. Among them are at least 6 National Champions with 15 Titles between them. There are also at least 6 drivers who hold Lap Records at Gateway and several notable Members and Officers in the Club's hierarchy too!

We should have some great Racing to watch and 1 Group has over 30 cars! Of course the best place to watch is from a corner; and we still need more staff OF ANY EXPERIENCE - including NONE! We do OJT and anyone of any ability can perform the functions we do, because we work as a team. Have you been out before, please come out again. Never been out on a corner - this would be a great event to see! Only 'requirement' is to not wear a 'Flag Color' since that is how we communicate with the drivers.

You can hit me up here, or wherever else you like, for more info or to add yourself to the crew. You can also contact Registrar Sheila Burkett, or Worker Coordinator Linda Miklovic, or even better Register directly at:
    http://msreg.com/stlmaymajors
If you are not a SCCA Member the Region will pay for a 'Temporary Membership'. We will also provide lunch both days and of course our Saturday dinner and 'drinks' after the Racing. For this event we are even having food and drink Friday evening as well, so we can take care of everyone traveling in and going through Registration and Tech, and those participating in the Friday Practice Day too! If you have ever thought of coming out - this is the one to do it! If you haven't,,,, well,,,,you aren't a race fan of any sort! wink emoticon

So much going on this weekend at Gateway - as reported in the St. Louis Post Dispatch

The St. Louis and Southern Illinois Regions of Sports Car Club of America will host the SCCA Mid-States Conference Majors race weekend May 14-15, on Circuit of St. Louis at Gateway Motorsports Park in Madison, according to a press release..

The race weekend is presented by epcusa.com, one of the largest resellers of used IT gear in the Midwest, and one of the premier IT Asset Recovery Solution providers in the United States.

Competitors from across the country will compete for series points to not only win in their class, but also become eligible for the 2016 SCCA Runoffs Presented by Garmin VIRB in September at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Complex. Car classes range from formula cars to American sedans, all racing wheel-to-wheel on the Circuit of St. Louis road course.

The luau themed, “Luau in the Lou” will also include a bon voyage party Saturday evening for St. Louis Region lifetime member Carol Cohn, who will be moving to live with her son, Bryan. She was the first recipient of the SCCA National Member of Excellence Award in 2008 and an integral part of St. Louis Region for over 50 years. Cohn's friends are welcome to join her in this fond farewell.

Qualifying begins at 8 a.m. both May 14 and 15, with races beginning before lunch each day. A charity drive-around is planned during lunch each day where spectators can take their passenger vehicle on the Circuit of St. Louis for a minimum donation of $5 (all vehicles will follow a pace car and all passengers are required to be belted in).

They are looking for individuals who are interested in volunteering both days. Volunteers are needed from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day and are provided lunch both days and dinner Saturday night. Trained volunteers in the fire, rescue, towing and emergency care are especially needed. To learn more, email registrar@stlscca.org or register online at msreg.com/StlMayMajors.

Spectators are welcomed and encouraged to attend this free event.

Sports Car Club of America is a 60,000- plus-member, not-for-profit organization, founded in 1944, which holds more than 2,000 amateur and professional motorsports events each year. The SCCA, which is headquartered in Topeka, Kan., consists of 115 regions. The St. Louis metro area has two active regions, the St. Louis Region SCCA and the Southern Illinois Region SCCA. There are four main areas of concentration for SCCA: Club Racing, Rally, Solo and Pro Racing.
