So much going on this weekend at Gateway - as reported in the St. Louis Post Dispatch
The St. Louis and Southern Illinois Regions of Sports Car Club of America will host the SCCA Mid-States Conference Majors race weekend May 14-15, on Circuit of St. Louis at Gateway Motorsports Park in Madison, according to a press release..
The race weekend is presented by epcusa.com, one of the largest resellers of used IT gear in the Midwest, and one of the premier IT Asset Recovery Solution providers in the United States.
Competitors from across the country will compete for series points to not only win in their class, but also become eligible for the 2016 SCCA Runoffs Presented by Garmin VIRB in September at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Complex. Car classes range from formula cars to American sedans, all racing wheel-to-wheel on the Circuit of St. Louis road course.
The luau themed, “Luau in the Lou” will also include a bon voyage party Saturday evening for St. Louis Region lifetime member Carol Cohn, who will be moving to live with her son, Bryan. She was the first recipient of the SCCA National Member of Excellence Award in 2008 and an integral part of St. Louis Region for over 50 years. Cohn's friends are welcome to join her in this fond farewell.
Qualifying begins at 8 a.m. both May 14 and 15, with races beginning before lunch each day. A charity drive-around is planned during lunch each day where spectators can take their passenger vehicle on the Circuit of St. Louis for a minimum donation of $5 (all vehicles will follow a pace car and all passengers are required to be belted in).
They are looking for individuals who are interested in volunteering both days. Volunteers are needed from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day and are provided lunch both days and dinner Saturday night. Trained volunteers in the fire, rescue, towing and emergency care are especially needed. To learn more, email email@example.com or register online at msreg.com/StlMayMajors.
Spectators are welcomed and encouraged to attend this free event.
