I know the ragtop Miata requires a roll bar for rollover protection to participate in AutoX.  I recently looked at a Miata RF which has a hardtop convertible.  I was wondering if that also requires the same, or if it is considered okay as is.  I recently made the mistake of test driving a hardtop Miata and fell in love with it.

You can compete in CS as-is in any MX-5 (soft or hardtop). There's no requirement for a rollbar in Autocross Street, Street Touring, or Street Prepared. It's one of my pet peeves with SCCA safety rules as the rules allow roll bars in all classes, but effectively discourage it.
