2 questions actually.

(1) Why doesn't the registration form ask for a name? Seems like the BB would like to have that info in case they need it. Also, then the username could provide a link to the person's profile. Or set up some sort of directory to link usernames to "real" names and people's cars (since that's *really* how we all know each other).

(2) Is this the proper place to post this type of question/suggestion.

Actually, the help forum would have been probably better. But, Here is some detail behind the registration.

The Registration doesn't require a name, because not everyone likes to share that info. However, the appropriate place to put that would be in your 'Signature' section of the profile. We have your email address in case we need it. That is far more effective than a name.

Try editing your profile, and hooking yourself up with some info in you Sig, I think you will like it!
Thanks for the feedback!
Dave

How long will I be a Junior Member? Till about 25 posts? When do you get Veteren Status? 1000 posts? Just wondering.

r2x, how do I know when there are going to be autox's in NC?

Personally I'm going to try to hide my real identity (kinda) from the people I will be racing against next year that switched to SM from STS at years' end. I'm doing the same, but I want to see their face when I empty my car and then slap on the SM magnetics. SCCAForums Image

Ok, now we have these little stars, and like "racer" "crew cheif" etc. Is there a little chart to go by that I can look at somewhere? Is there going to be like a "Cone Captain" or something when you get to 500?

I don't want to give them all away, but there are quite a few 'rankings' included now... About 50 is the next step, then 100... from then on... we will just have to wait and see who gets there! Pretty cool stuff though... I thought it was a bit nicer of a twist then Junior Member, and Senior stuff.
Hope ya like!

I think you should require more posts before being a racer. Don't want people to get cocky.

Hey, I realize I'm brand new here, but I do foresee a few problems with member status... over at granturismo.com where 'Seniors' are hand-selected by the admins, there's an endless debate over "why aren't I a senior?" or "why do we have member status?" - I think it's a neat idea to have more unique 'racing ranks' but it could cause some problems in the future - great site though, congratulations.

[does the offical GTF Senior Member high-five with SCCA kid]

The one good thing about admin-selected tags is that a person cannot flood a UBB with a thousand posts in a month for their stars and bars. It all works out in the end, though. Some of the best conversations are with long-time members who tend to post less.

Actually if the ranking is based purely on post count, then you don't have to worry about people complaining that they should be something else since if they haven't posted enough. Around the 4,000 post mark on www.impreza-rs.com the owner of the site decided I was good Moderator material and since then (maybe 3-4 months) I've gotten up to 7,100 posts. Guess I'm kinda a post whore, but at least I don't get many complaints other then my beating people to answering questions. SCCAForums Image
